Sendai 89ers add Schafer to their roster

Sendai 89ers (B1 League) added 28-year-old Japanese-American international power forward Avi Schafer (206cm-106kg-1998, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Schafer Sports) to their roster for the 2026-27 season. Schafer, who has played for the last six years at SeaHorses Mikawa, recorded just 2.5ppg and 2.1rpg in 55 B1 League games last season. He helped SeaHorses Mikawa end the regular season as the second-best team in the league and also played in the Cup final.
Schafer has also been a member of the Japanese international program for several years. He has regularly played for the Japanese senior team since 2018 and previously for the Under 19 National Team in 2017.
Schafer also represented Japan at the FIBA World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers three years ago. During this event, he scored an average of 1.5 points per game and had 1.3 rebounds per game.
He has played for the Japanese team Lakestars before.
Schafer graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2019, and this will be his eighth season as a professional player.
