Denso Iris keep Kawai for another season

Denso Iris (WJBL) re-signed 29-year-old international 171cm point guard Mai Kawai for the new season. She played there last season. In 34 WJBL games, she averaged 7.2ppg, 2.1rpg, and 4.0apg. She helped them to make it to the Japanese League final after they ended the regular season as the second-best team. For the three previous seasons (2021-24), she played at another Japanese team Toyota Antelopes.
Kawai has been a member of the Japanese international program for some years. She has regularly played for the Japanese senior team since 2019 and previously for the Under 18 National Team in 2014.
Kawai also represented Japan at the FIBA Asia Cup for Women in Shenzhen (China) this year. Kawai's team won Silver and she averaged over 2 ppg.
She has played previously for Mitsubishi Koalas.
She won the Japanese WJBL championship title in 2022. She was also voted the Asia-Basket.com All-Japanese WJBL Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.
