Germany recorded the second consecutive win at the 2024 Olympic Games. They outscored Japan to remain undefeated in Group C. Satou Sabally (193-F-1998, college: Oregon) was pivotal with 33 points for the winners. Germany sank 21 points in the first period to open a 5-point lead. Germany maintained the lead throughout the second stanza. They established a 42-36 halftime advantage. The European side extended the lead to double digits in the third period heading into the final term up by 10 points 59-49. Saki Hayashi (173-G-1995) put Japan within five 64-69 with 74 seconds left in regulation. But Alexis Peterson (173-PG-1995, college: Syracuse), Satou Sabally and Luisa Geiselsoeder (192-C-2000) responded with six free throws to restore a double-digit advantage as Germany rolled to the win. Alexis Peterson produced 11 points for the winners. Saori Miyazaki (167-SG-1995) answered with 13 points, while Maki Takada (185-C-1989) had 15 points for Japan. |
