Nagasaki Velca (B1 League) strengthened their roster with the addition of 24-year-old American 193cm shooting guard Mark Smith (college: Kansas State) for the 2024-25 season. He played most recently at Casademont Zaragoza in the Spanish Liga Endesa. In 24 games, he recorded 12.5ppg, 3.8rpg, 2.0apg, and 1.1spg last season. He also played 8 games in the FIBA Europe Cup, where he averaged 14.8ppg, 5.6rpg, 2.5apg, and 1.5spg. Smith helped them reach the quarterfinals and was voted League Player of the Week. The previous (2023) summer, he played for the Nuggets in the U.S. semi-pro league NBA Summer League.
He has played professionally in Germany (BG Goettingen) before.
Among many awards, he was selected to the Eurobasket.com German Bundesliga All-Newcomers Team in 2023.
Smith graduated from Kansas State in 2022 and it will be his third season in pro basketball. He played for other colleges such as University of Missouri and University of Illinois.
