Japan host Opals in back-to-back Olympic preparation games

Japan will host familiar foes Australia in the Mitsui Fudosan Cup 2024 as the two countries get ready to play at the Olympics in France.
The women's national teams will square off on June 20 and June 21 at the Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center, with each game tipping off at 7:00 PM local time. In the latest FIBA World Ranking, Presented by Nike, Japan are No. 9 while Australia are No. 3. There have been many battles between the two countries in recent years. The Opals hosted last year's FIBA Women's Asia Cup and reached the podium but lost their game against Japan, 91-66. When Australia staged the FIBA Basketball Women's World Cup, they rolled to a 71-54 win over their rivals. Japan scraped a 74-73 win over Australia in the Final of the FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017, and also beat the Opals in the Semi-Finals of at the next two Asia Cups in 2019 and 2021. Their last Olympic battle was in 2016, when Australia came from 16 points down in the fourth quarter with just eight minutes left and won the Preliminary Round game, 92-86.
