WJBL Round 26 (Regular Season): Toyota A. is defeated by Eneos S.

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most important game in the last round took place in Nagoya between third ranked Toyota A. (21-4) and fourth ranked Eneos S. (22-4) on Sunday night. Toyota A. was defeated by Eneos S. at home 73-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Toyota A.. Eneos S. made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. The former international power forward Ramu Tokashiki (193-1991) scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Saori Miyazaki (167-1995) chipped in 16 points during the contest. The former international point guard Shiori Yasuma (161-1994) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Toyota A.'s coach Yuko Ogami rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Toyota A. at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost.
WJBL top team - Fujitsu RW (23-3) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Chanson V-M (17-8) in Kawasaki 70-63. The former international forward Yuki Miyazawa (183-1993, college: Queens, NY) notched a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) to lead the effort and Rui Machida supported her with 6 points, 9 rebounds and 13 assists. Even a double-double of 21 points and 19 rebounds by the former international center Izoje Uche (188-2004) did not help to save the game for Chanson V-M. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Fujitsu RW have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 23-3 record. Chanson V-M lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with eight games lost.
The game in Hitachinaka was also quite interesting. 7th ranked Aishin AW (12-13) played at the court of eighth ranked Hitachi Cougars (12-13). Hitachi Cougars managed to secure a 4-point victory 82-78 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Aishin AW. The best player for the winners was Hoshi Aka who scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Hitachi Cougars' coach Tomohide Utsumi used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. CaiDeng Sakai produced 14 points and 7 assists for the guests. Hitachi Cougars moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Aishin AW.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 26: bottom-ranked Himeji E. was destroyed by Denso I. on the opponent's court 84-47. Aranmare unfortunately lost to Mitsubishi K. in a home game 63-76. Yamanashi QB recorded a loss to Haneda V. on the road 56-65. Toyota BSR was defeated by Niigata R. on its own court 64-65.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 19 points and 6 rebounds by Hideka Kanazawa of Niigata R..

Denso I. - Himeji E. 84-47

Very expected game in Kariya where 14th ranked Himeji E. (3-22) was crushed by second ranked Denso I. (22-3) 84-47 on Sunday. Denso I. dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Himeji E.'s 28. They outrebounded Himeji E. 49-28 including a 33-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Denso I. looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Himeji E.'s players. The best player for the winners was the former international Akaho Himawari (185-1998) who scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. The former international center Maki Takada (185-1989) chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds. Point guard Aoi Ishimaki (165-2000) produced 17 points and point guard Saori Yoshida (158-1984) added 9 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Denso I. have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 22-3 record behind leader Fujitsu RW. Himeji E. lost eleventh consecutive game. They stay dead last with 22 lost games.

Hitachi Cougars - Aishin AW 82-78

The game in Hitachinaka was also quite interesting. 7th ranked Aishin AW (12-13) played at the court of eighth ranked Hitachi Cougars (12-13). It was a great shooting night for Hitachi Cougars especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Aishin AW's players. The best player for the winners was point guard Hoshi Aka (170-1995) who scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Senegalese center Daramee Malem-Doi (187-1997) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Hitachi Cougars' coach Tomohide Utsumi used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Point guard CaiDeng Sakai (164-1995) produced 14 points and 7 assists and the former international Sakura Noguchi (181-2001) added 11 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hitachi Cougars moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Aishin AW.

Rather predictable result in Akita where ninth ranked Mitsubishi K. (10-16) defeated 12th ranked Aranmare (4-21) 76-63 on Sunday. Mitsubishi K. had a 34-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international Aya Watanabe (168-1992) who scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Nemoto Haruno (176-1995) chipped in 19 points. Center Niang Kumba (190-1999) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds and swingman Yuka Takahashi (174-1999) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. Four Aranmare players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mitsubishi K. have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain ninth position with 10-16 record. Aranmare lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with 21 games lost.

There was a surprise result in Aichi where thirteenth ranked Niigata R. (5-21) edged higher ranked Toyota BSR (14-12) 65-64 on Sunday. Niigata R. forced 22 Toyota BSR turnovers. Strangely Toyota BSR outrebounded Niigata R. 51-30 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Hideka Kanazawa (180-2000) who scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Center Yumi Yano (180-1997) chipped in 9 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Jessica Wariebimo (188-2005) produced 9 points and 18 rebounds and the former international center Miyuki Kawamura (185-1994) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Toyota BSR's coach Lucas Mondelo tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Niigata R. moved-up to twelfth place. Loser Toyota BSR keeps the sixth position with 12 games lost.
