Hungary overcame Japan to tie all records at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying tournament in Sopron at 1-1. The home side posted an 81-75 win to keep the chances alive. After the win over Spain, Japan started with a 22-13 run. Hungary, on the other side, replied with a 19-10 rally in the second period and posted two narrow wins in the second half.
Bernadett Hatar (208-C-1994) top-scored for the winners with 17 points, Debora Dubei (184-SF-1997) had 16 and Dorka Juhasz (196-F-1999, college: UConn) ended up with 11. Mai Yamamoto (163-PG-1999) and Saori Miyazaki (167-SG-1995) delivered 15 points each for the Asian powerhouse.
