WJBL Round 10 (Regular Season): Fujitsu RW defeat Denso I.

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Denso I. (8-1) in Kawasaki on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by fourth ranked Fujitsu RW (9-1) 62-59. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Denso I.. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Saki Hayashi (173-1995) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Yuki Miyazawa (183-1993, college: Queens, NY) contributed with 11 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Minami Yabu (178-2004) replied with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Denso I.Denso I.'s coach Vladimir Vuksanovic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fujitsu RW moved-up to second place, which they share with Eneos S. Denso I. at the other side dropped to the fourth position with one game lost. Fujitsu RW is looking forward to face league's second-placed Eneos S. in Kashiwa in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Denso I. will play on the road against Niigata R. in Tokyo and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a home loss of first ranked Eneos S. (9-1) against fifth ranked Chanson V-M (6-3) on Sunday night. Host Eneos S. was defeated by Chanson V-M in Kashiwa 85-71. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Eneos S.. The former international point guard Kuke Haruka (166-1995) scored 27 points and 5 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Aina Kaneda chipped in 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side the former international power forward Ramu Tokashiki (193-1991) responded with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Eneos S.'s coach Timothy Lewis tested ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Chanson V-M maintains fifth position with 6-3 record. Defending champion Eneos S. dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Fujitsu RW. Chanson V-M will play against Himeji E. (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Eneos S. will play against Fujitsu RW (#3) in Kawasaki and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Akita between Hitachi Cougars and Aranmare A.. Ninth ranked Hitachi Cougars (3-6) got a very close victory on the road over 8th ranked Aranmare A. (3-6). Hitachi Cougars managed to escape with a 1-point win 58-57 in the fight for the eighth place. Hoshi Aka notched 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort. Even 8 points and 4 assists by Mutya Mori did not help to save the game for Aranmare A.. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hitachi Cougars moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Aranmare A. Hitachi Cougars will meet Yamanashi QB (#11) on the road in the next round. Aranmare A. will play against Toyota BSR in Aichi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games in round 10 were not that significant. Mitsubishi K. smashed Niigata R. on the road 94-47. Haneda V. lost to Aishin AW on its own court 62-73. Toyota BSR outscored Himeji E. in Aichi 93-55. Yamanashi QB lost to undefeated Toyota A. at home 66-92.

Niigata R. - Mitsubishi K. 47-94

The game between closely ranked teams ended with thirteenth ranked Mitsubishi K.'s (3-7) road victory over bottom-ranked Niigata R. (1-9) in Tokyo 94-47 on Sunday. Mitsubishi K. looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Niigata R.'s players. The former international forward Nemoto Haruno (176-1995) notched 18 points to lead the effort and guard Hinano Mizuno (173-1997) supported her with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Mitsubishi K. players scored in double figures. Even 8 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists by center Yumi Yano (180-1997) did not help to save the game for Niigata R.. Point guard Miyu Kawamura (170-1998) added 9 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mitsubishi K. moved-up to tenth place. Loser Niigata R. stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Mitsubishi K. will meet higher ranked Aishin AW (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Niigata R. will play against Denso I. (#4) and hope to win that game.

Very expected game when 12th ranked Haneda V. (2-8) lost to seventh ranked Aishin AW (4-5) in Tokyo 62-73 on Sunday. Aishin AW dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Haneda V.'s 20. Sakura Noguchi (181-2001) notched 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and June Mineharu (171-1999) supported her with 23 points. Even 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by point guard Hotaru Kabashima (162-1999) did not help to save the game for Haneda V.. Center Miwa Kuribayashi (188-1998) added 19 points and 5 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aishin AW maintains seventh position with 4-5 record. Haneda V. lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with eight games lost. Aishin AW will meet at home Mitsubishi K. (#10) in the next round. Haneda V. will play against the league's leader Toyota A. having rather not much hope for a victory.

Very predictable result when sixth ranked Toyota BSR (5-5) rolled over on the road 11th ranked Himeji E. (2-7) 93-55 on Sunday. Toyota BSR dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Himeji E.'s 26. Toyota BSR forced 19 Himeji E. turnovers and outrebounded them 51-30 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Toyota BSR looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Himeji E.'s players. The former international center Miyuki Kawamura (185-1994) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and international Nanako Todo (175-2000) supported her with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Four Toyota BSR players scored in double figures. Even 17 points and 8 rebounds by point guard Aoi Ishimaki (165-2000) did not help to save the game for Himeji E.. Guard Wenwu Moehua (160-1999) added 11 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Yamanashi QB (2-7) was outscored at home by top-ranked Toyota A. (9-0) 92-66 on Sunday. Toyota A. outrebounded Yamanashi QB 38-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. Toyota A. shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 70.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. International center Aika Hirashita (177-2002) notched 18 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) to lead the effort and the former international point guard Shiori Yasuma (161-1994) supported her with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Five Toyota A. players scored in double figures. Even 14 points and 8 rebounds by Airi Tomita (183-1997) did not help to save the game for Yamanashi QB. Aika Watanabe (177-1995) added 12 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyota A. have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Yamanashi QB lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with seven games lost. They share the position with Himeji E.. Toyota A. will meet at home Haneda V. (#13) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Yamanashi QB will play against Hitachi Cougars and hope to secure a win.
