Japanese WJBL round 15 best performance: Monica Okoye- January 4, 2022
The 22-year old player was the main contributor (25 points, eight rebounds and four assists) to her team's victory, helping them to outclass Yamanashi QB (#10, 3-11) with 27-point margin 95-68. It allowed Fujitsu RW to take over top position in the Japanese WJBL. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. It's already very far into the season and Fujitsu RW keeps a perfect 16-0 record. In the team's last game Okoye had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range. She has many years of experience at Fujitsu RW, through which she has constantly improved. Monica Okoye has solid league stats. She is in league's top in points (4th best: 15.7ppg) and averages impressive 1.3bpg and 40.7% from behind 3-point line. The second best player in last round's games was another Fujitsu RW's star - 28-year old international point guard Rui Machida (162-PG-93). Machida had a very good evening with 17 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists. Of course together with Okoye she helped Fujitsu RW with another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Yamanashi QB (#10, 3-11) 95-68. This victory allowed Fujitsu RW to move up to 1st position in the standings. She plays for the best team in the league and Fujitsu RW managed to win all 16 games keeping a perfect record. Machida is one of the most experienced players at Fujitsu RW and similarly like Monica Okoye has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. Third on the list of top players last round was international center Akaho Himawari (184-C-98) of league's second-best Denso I.. Himawari scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Despite Himawari's great performance Denso I. lost 74-79 to the lower-ranked Haneda V. (#11, 2-12). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. That was shocking loss for Denso I. and their fans. Hopefully so far almost perfect season will not turn around. They still have impressive 15-1 record in the league. Himawari plays for a very strong team and Denso I. has many quality players. So achieving that high stats is even more impressive. Himawari has a great season in Japan. After 16 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 7.9rpg (5th best). She also has 1.1bpg and FGP: 59.6%. Other top performing players last week: 4. Sakura Akaho (184-C-96) of Denso I. - 12 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists 5. Aimi Wakahara (171-F-96) of Yamanashi QB - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists 6. Mamiko Tanaka (180-C/F-96) of Fujitsu RW - 12 points and 8 rebounds 7. Mio Shinozaki (167-PG-91) of Fujitsu RW - 9 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists 8. Chikae Uchino (177-F-93) of Fujitsu RW - 25 points and 5 rebounds 9. Yuriko Tsumura (172-G-95) of Haneda V. - 16 points and 3 rebounds 10. Marii Watanabe (177-F/G-97) of Yamanashi QB - 15 points and 8 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
