The Second Stage in B League D3 just started. Host teams show no mercy winning all games. The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with change at the leadership position, derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The biggest surprise of round 1 in B League D3 took place in Saitama where host Saitama Broncos (2-0) beat Gifu Swoops (0-2) 92-86 on Saturday evening. American center Antone Warren (208-93, college: Antelope Valley CC) fired a double-double by scoring 24 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import center Joshua Crawford (211-88, college: Indiana St.) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Montenegrin-Qatari forward Alen Hadzibegovic (209-99) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Gifu Swoops will play next round against strong Kagoshima trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Saitama Broncos will try to continue on its current victory against Iwate Big Bulls on the road.
Tokyo Excel. defeated Tokyo Cinq R. at home 95-79. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Jordan Faison (201-94, college: Cal Poly Pomona) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Ryan Stephan contributed with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American center Joe Wolfinger (216-85, college: Citadel) answered with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds for Tokyo Cinq R.Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tokyo Cinq R. will play next round against strong Koshigaya A. trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tokyo - Koshigaya A.. Tokyo Excel. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.

The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tokyo Excel. will have a break next round. Tokyo Cinq R.'s supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tokyo Koshigaya A..

In the last game of round 1 winless Iwate Big Bulls lost to undefeated Koshigaya A. in Tokyo 74-86.

Very important is a road loss of Iwate Big Bulls (0-2) against Koshigaya A. (2-0) on Saturday night. Visiting Iwate Big Bulls were defeated by Koshigaya A. in Tokyo 96-78. Koshigaya A. dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Iwate Big Bulls' 40 and had 24 for 34 from the free-throw line, while Iwate Big Bulls only scored eight points from the stripe. Koshigaya A. forced 21 Iwate Big Bulls turnovers. Iwate Big Bulls were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was dominated by American players. Josh Peppers (201-85, college: Cent.Florida) fired a double-double by scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Sendai 89ers (B2 League) agreed terms with 33-year old guard Masaharu Kataoka (190-85). It is actually his comeback to Sendai as he has played here before. Kataoka already started the season at Kyoto Hannaryz in the B League. In 55 games he had 6.2ppg, 1.9rpg and 1.4apg last season.
