Venezuelan Center Gregory Echenique (206-C-90, agency: Pensack Sports) put on an amazing game in the last round for top-ranked Shimane SM, receiving a Interperformances B2 League Player of the Week award for round 47.
The 28-year old player had a double-double of 28 points and 18 rebounds, while his team beat Aomori Watts (#6, 12-35) 84-78. It allowed Shimane SM to take over top position in the Japanese B2 League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Shimane SM has a very solid 34-13 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. Echenique turned to be Shimane SM's top player in his first season with the team. Former Creighton University star has very solid stats this year. Echenique leads league in rebounds with 14.2rpg. Echenique is in league's top in and averages impressive 1.6bpg and 61.6% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 28-year old American Chehales Tapscott (195-F-90) of league's second-best Kumamoto V.. Tapscott had a very good evening with 45 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Bad luck as Kumamoto V. lost that game 90-95 to the lower-ranked Yamagata (#5, 18-29). This loss caused Kumamoto V. to drop to 2nd position in West. His team's 33-14 record is not bad at all. Tapscott is a newcomer at Kumamoto V., but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 23.6ppg (#5). His other stats are also decent: 8.9rpg and 4.7apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Kumamoto V.'s star - South African center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-C-89). Nephawe scored 26 points and grabbed twenty four rebounds (!!!). Despite Nephawe's great performance Kumamoto V. lost 90-95 to the lower-ranked Yamagata (#5, 18-29). But his team cannot count on just these two top stars as they also need help of the other teammates. The last thing Kumamoto V. needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in West. Their record is 33 victories and 14 lost games. Nephawe has a great season in Japan. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 12.3rpg (7th best). He also has 1.4bpg and FGP: 52.8%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Sotaro Uehara (170-PG-94) of Nishinomiya S. - 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Thomas Kennedy (201-F-87) of Gunma - 37 points and 10 rebounds
6. Gary Hamilton (208-C/F-84) of Bambitious Nara - 10 points, 12 rebounds and 15 assists
7. Jerome Tillman (201-F-87) of Sendai 89ers - 26 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists
8. Jamari Traylor (203-F/C-92) of Hiroshima D. - 25 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists
9. Will Creekmore (205-C-89) of Yamagata - 31 points and 12 rebounds
10. Scootie Randall (198-F-90) of Cyberdyne IR - 20 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
