There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Top ranked Ryukyu GK (28-16) recorded its sixteenth loss in Okinawa on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by fourth ranked Toyama Grouses (22-22) 80-78. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ryukyu GK. The best player for the winners was American center Joshua Smith (208-92, college: Georgetown) who scored 24 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!). The other American import forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) chipped in 15 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. American forward Jeff Ayres (206-87, college: Arizona St.) produced 21 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Toyama Grouses maintains fourth position with 22-22 record. Ryukyu GK at the other side still keeps top place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Kawasaki BT. Toyama Grouses are looking forward to face league's leader Niigata Albirex at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Ryukyu GK will play against Shiga L-Stars and is hoping to win this game.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tochigi. Second ranked Tochigi Brex faced one of their biggest challengers Aishin Sea Horses. Host Tochigi Brex (36-8) smashed guests from Kariya (23-21) 79-56. American forward Ryan Rossiter (204-89, college: Siena) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds. Jeffrey Gibbs contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American center Isaac Butts (208-89, college: Appalachian St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds for Aishin Sea Horses. Aishin Sea Horses' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Tochigi Brex have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 36-8 record behind leader Ryukyu GK. Aishin Sea Horses lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with 21 games lost. Tochigi Brex will play against Hitachi Sunrockers (#4) in Tokyo in the next round. Aishin Sea Horses will play at home against San-en NeoPhoenix and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Kyoto. Second ranked Kyoto Hannar. faced 4th ranked Osaka Evessa. Host Kyoto Hannar. (25-19) defeated guests from Osaka (17-27) 81-69. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Osaka Evessa. Worth to mention a great performance of Julian Mavunga who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Josh Harrellson responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kyoto Hannar. maintains second position with 25-19 record having twelve points less than leader Ryukyu GK. Loser Osaka Evessa keeps the fourth place with 27 games lost. They share the position with San-en. Kyoto Hannar. will meet Diamond Dolphins (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Osaka Evessa will play against Fukuoka Rizing and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rest of the games of round 44 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Kawasaki BT defeated Fukuoka Rizing in Kanagawa 84-76. Hokkaido L. was beaten by Nagoya DD at home 78-84. Akita NH lost to Shiga L-Stars on the opponent's court 76-92.



San-en - Toyota Alvark 59-83

The game in Hamamatsu supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Toyota Alvark (32-12) played at the court of 5th ranked San-en NeoPhoenix (17-27). Toyota Alvark smashed San-en NeoPhoenix 83-59 on Sunday. It was a great shooting night for Toyota Alvark especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was American center Alex Kirk (211-91, college: N.Mexico, agency: Pensack Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Montenegrin-Serbian power forward Milko Bjelica (207-84, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 21 points. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Toyota Alvark's coach Luka Pavicevic felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American center William McDonald (211-79, college: S.Florida) produced 22 points and 6 rebounds and American-Bulgarian power forward Cedric Simmons (206-86, college: NC State) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. There was no surprise when 5th ranked Fukuoka Rizing (10-34) was defeated at home by second ranked Toshiba Thunders (28-16) 84-76 on Sunday. Toshiba Thunders looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was international power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. American power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Toshiba Thunders players scored in double figures. American forward Marqus Blakely (201-88, college: Vermont) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import center Dexter Pittman (208-88, college: Texas) added 22 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Fukuoka Rizing's coach Ryuji Kawai tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toshiba Thunders have an impressive six-game winning streak. They used an opportunity after Ryukyu GK lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Fukuoka Rizing lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fifth place with 34 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face Yokohama BC (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Fukuoka Rizing will play against Osaka Evessa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Four Diamond Dolphins players scored in double figures. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Akita Happinets (14-30) were defeated on the road by sixth ranked Shiga L-Stars (10-34) 92-76 on Sunday. Shiga L-Stars shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American power forward Allen Durham (198-88, college: Grace Bible) who scored 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import swingman Henry Walker (198-87, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Durham is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Shiga L-Stars players scored in double figures. American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) produced 15 points and 7 rebounds and Bahamas power forward Kadeem Coleby (206-89, college: Wichita St.) added 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Akita Happinets' coach tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Shiga L-Stars moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Fukuoka Rizing and Hokkaido L. Akita Happinets lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the fifth position with 30 games lost. Shiga L-Stars will face league's leader Ryukyu GK in Okinawa in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Akita Happinets will play at home against Hokkaido L. (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
