B League D3 Round 40: Koshigaya A. beats Aisin AW in the most crucial game of the week - Mar 12, 2019

The Regular Season in B League D3 is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 9 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tokyo. Third ranked Koshigaya A. faced one of their biggest challengers Aisin AW. Host Koshigaya A. (25-9) smashed guests from Aichi (23-11) 77-55. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Aisin AW. Koshigaya A. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American Kyle Richardson (201-91, college: Portland St.) fired a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. The other American import Josh Peppers (201-85, college: Cent.Florida) chipped in 15 points. Koshigaya A.'s coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Kevin Kotzur (203-89, college: St.Mary's, TX) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Koshigaya A. maintains third position with 25-9 record having six points less than leader Tokyo Excel. Aisin AW at the other side keeps the fourth place with 11 games lost. Koshigaya A. are looking forward to face Saitama Broncos (#6) at home in the next round. Aisin AW will play against Tokyo Cinq R. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Leader Tokyo Excel. delivered the 31th victory. This time they crushed bottom-ranked Tokyo Big Blue (0-34) 95-74. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Ryan Stephan (208-94, college: Colorado Mesa) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. Jordan Faison contributed with 21 points and 8 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Andre Murray (188-87, college: Portland St.) replied with 17 points for Tokyo Big Blue. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tokyo Excel. (31-3) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Tokyo Big Blue at the other side still closes the standings. Tokyo Excel. will play against Iwate Big Bulls (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tokyo Big Blue will play against Kagoshima in Renova and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Worth to mention a great performance of Atomu Yamada who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 6 steals. At the losing side Bingo Merriex responded with 5 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Gifu Swoops' coach Kazuo Kusumoto rotated eleven players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tokyo Cinq R. have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 21-13 record. Gifu Swoops lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the seventh place with 22 games lost. They share the position with Kagoshima. Tokyo Cinq R. will meet at home higher ranked Aisin AW (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gifu Swoops will play against the league's second-placed Toyoda Gosei and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 40 Toyoda Gosei defeated Iwate Big Bulls in Aichi 82-68. Saitama Bron. beat Kagoshima at home 86-76.

Gifu Swoops - Tokyo Cinq R. 66-80

The game in Gifu was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (21-13) played at the court of 7th ranked Gifu Swoops (12-22). Tokyo Cinq R. defeated Gifu Swoops 80-66 on Sunday. There was no surprise when 9th ranked Iwate Big Bulls (6-28) were defeated at home by second ranked Toyoda Gosei (26-8) 82-68 on Sunday. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Irish Brian Voelkel (196-92, college: Vermont) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 11 points, 18 rebounds and 8 assists and American Patrick Simon (203-92, college: Seattle Pacific) who added 16 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Five Toyoda Gosei players scored in double figures. At the losing side American center Marcus Cousin (211-86, college: Houston) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds and his fellow American import Titus Robinson (201-90, college: Buffalo) scored 12 points. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Toyoda Gosei maintains second position with 26-8 record having five points less than leader Tokyo Excel. Loser Iwate Big Bulls keep the ninth place with 28 games lost. Toyoda Gosei will meet Gifu Swoops (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Iwate Big Bulls will play against the league's leader Tokyo Excel. and hope to secure a win.

Four Saitama Broncos players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Shelton Boykin (198-92, college: Angelo St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and Bahamas center Gjio Bain (211-85, college: S.Mississippi) scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Sendai 89ers (B2 League) agreed terms with 33-year old guard Masaharu Kataoka (190-85). It is actually his comeback to Sendai as he has played here before.
