DAVANTE GARDNER

American Power forward Davante Gardner (203-PF-91) had an amazing evening in the last round for top-ranked Niigata Albirex, receiving a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 31.
The 27-year old player had a double-double of 34 points and 20 rebounds, while his team edged out Kyoto Hannar. (#3, 15-16) 90-86. It allowed Niigata Albirex to consolidate first place in the Japanese B League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Niigata Albirex has a very solid 21-10 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. Gardner has many years of experience at Niigata Albirex, through which he has constantly improved. Former Marquette University star has very solid stats this year. Gardner is league's best scorer averaging so far 26.8ppg. Gardner is in league's top in rebounds (8th best: 11.0rpg) and averages impressive 60.7% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 26-year old American Joshua Smith (208-C-92) of Toyama Grouses. Smith had a very good evening with a double-double of 29 points and 14 rebounds. Of course Toyama Grouses cruised to a 94-87 relatively comfortable win over slightly lower-ranked Hitachi SR (#4, 13-18). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the top position in East. Toyama Grouses consolidated its place in top 3 of the standings. His team's 18-13 record is not bad at all. Smith is a newcomer at Toyama Grouses, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Ryan Kelly (211-PF-91) of Hitachi SR (#4). Kelly got into 30-points club by scoring 34 points in the last round. He went also for ten rebounds . Despite Kelly's great performance Hitachi SR lost 87-94 to #3 ranked Toyama Grouses. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The chances of Hitachi SR ranking at the top of East, however are very questionable as they have already lost 18 games, recording just thirteen victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Kelly could help Hitachi SR to bring them higher in the standings. Kelly has a great season in Japan. After 31 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.5ppg (8th best). He also has 1.1bpg and FGP: 52.7%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Michael Parker (202-F-81) of Chiba Jets - 25 points and 11 rebounds
5. Julian Mavunga (203-PF-90) of Kyoto Hannar. - 28 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists
6. David Simon (208-C-82) of Kyoto Hannar. - 22 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Hasheem Thabeet (218-C-87) of Yokohama BC - 28 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists
8. Shinnosuke Ohishi (174-PG-87) of San-en - 22 points and 8 rebounds
9. Gani Lawal (206-F/C-88) of Shiga L-Stars - 19 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
10. William McDonald (211-C-79) of San-en - 20 points and 15 rebounds

The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Shou Nisbet
Earthfriends Tokyo Z inks Shou Nisbet - 4 days ago
SHOU NISBET Earthfriends Tokyo Z (B2 League) signed 21-year old New Zealander guard Shou Nisbet (196-97, college: Southeast CC). He played last season at Shiga L-Stars in the B League. B League was a little too high level for him, where in 20 games he had just 1.2ppg and 1.4rpg. B2 League will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. Nisbet's team won New Zealand NBL Regular Season in 2016. He graduated from Southeast Community College in 2018 and it is his second...   [read more]
