B League D4 Round 7: Saitama Broncos lose to Tokyo Excel. in the game between Top 4 teams - Nov 11, 2018

After 7 rounds played we can already see who rules in the B League D3 and who belongs to weaker ones. Coincidentally all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between Top Four teams took place in Saitama. 4th placed host Saitama Broncos (5-7) lost to second ranked Tokyo Excel. (11-1) 77-71. Tokyo Excel. outrebounded Saitama Broncos 40-27 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American center Ryan Stephan (208-94, college: Colorado Mesa) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import forward Jordan Faison (201-94, college: Cal Poly Pomona) helped adding 20 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side American center Joshua Crawford (211-88, college: Indiana St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tokyo Excel. have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Koshigaya A. Saitama Broncos at the other side keep the fourth place with seven games lost. Tokyo Excel. is looking forward to face Iwate Big Bulls (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Saitama Broncos will play against the league's leader Koshigaya A. and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.

Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for Tokyo Excel.. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Koshigaya A. Saitama Broncos at the other side keep the fourth place with seven games lost. Tokyo Excel. will play against Iwate Big Bulls (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Luke Evans fired a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Ibuki Fukuda produced 9 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for Koshigaya A.. They maintain first place with 11-1 record, which they share with Tokyo Excel. Kagoshima lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 11 games lost. Koshigaya A. will meet Saitama Broncos (#4) on the road in the next round. Kagoshima will play against Tokyo Big Blue and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Worth to mention a great performance of Kyle Richardson who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 31 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists (on 15-of-16 shooting from the field). Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for Koshigaya A.. They maintain first place with 11-1 record, which they share with Tokyo Excel. Kagoshima lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 11 games lost. Koshigaya A.'s next round opponent will be Saitama Broncos (#4) on the road. Kagoshima will play against Tokyo Big Blue and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Iwate was also quite interesting. Third ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (7-5) played at the court of 6th ranked Iwate Big Bulls (3-9). Tokyo Cinq R. defeated Iwate Big Bulls 68-53 on Sunday. It was a great evening for Deangelo Kirkland who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Tokyo Cinq R. maintains third place with 7-5 record having four points less than leader Koshigaya A. Loser Iwate Big Bulls keep the sixth position with nine games lost. Tokyo Cinq R. will face Aisin AW (#8) in Aichi in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Iwate Big Bulls will play on the road against the league's second-placed Tokyo Excel. and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 7 Tokyo Cinq R. won against Iwate Big Bulls on the opponent's court 88-71.



Iwate Big Bulls - Tokyo Cinq R. 53-68

The game in Iwate was also quite interesting. Third ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (7-5) played at the court of 6th ranked Iwate Big Bulls (3-9). Tokyo Cinq R. defeated Iwate Big Bulls 68-53 on Sunday. It was a great evening for American forward Deangelo Kirkland (203-89, college: Columbus St., agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import center Joe Wolfinger (216-85, college: Citadel) helped adding 5 points and 13 rebounds. At the losing side American Titus Robinson (201-90, college: Buffalo) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Ban Kosei (168-93) scored 9 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Tokyo Cinq R. maintains third place with 7-5 record having four points less than leader Koshigaya A. Koshigaya A. dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Kagoshima's 26. They outrebounded Kagoshima 49-29 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Koshigaya A. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American Luke Evans (203-91, college: Cal.Baptist) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Ryo Narumi (170-87) chipped in 25 points. Swingman Ibuki Fukuda (195-96) produced 9 points and 7 rebounds and Kiichi Kawakami (188-95) added 12 points respectively for lost side. Sendai 89ers (B2 League) agreed terms with 33-year old guard Masaharu Kataoka (190-85). It is actually his comeback to Sendai as he has played here before. Kataoka already started the season at Kyoto Hannaryz in the B League. In 55 games he had 6.2ppg, 1.9rpg and 1.4apg last season.
