Wendell
White
Hiroshima Dragonflies (B2 League) agreed terms with 33-year old American guard Wendell White (198-100kg-84, college: UNLV). He has played for the last four seasons at Sendai 89ers in B1 League. However his team was relegated to B2 League. In 37 BJ League games he had very impressive stats: 17.7ppg, 8.5rpg and 1.7apg last season. B2 League will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others White's team was regular season runner-up in Japanese BJ League Eastern Division in 2016. He was also voted Asia-Basket.com All-Japanese BJ League Player of the Year and Asia-Basket.com All-Japanese BJ League Import Player of the Year in 2010 and 2016.
White has played also professionally in Korea (Dongbu Promy), Japan (San en NeoPhoenix, Orange Vikings and Kyoto Hannaryz) and NBA G League (South Bay Lakers).
He attended University of Nevada - Las Vegas until 2007 and it will be his eleventh (!!!) season as a professional player.
On White: A strong player, who can add interior toughness to any team. He's built as a typical swingman, but his game is of a power forward. He handles it well enough to do most of his damage facing the basket, but his shooting range is limited. White can certainly gain a bit of explosiveness, but it is hard to see him ever emerging as a true SF at the top level. He seems, instead, the ideal combo forward for the European leagues.

Ateneo holds off Japan for 2nd win in Jones Cup - 2 days ago
The Ateneo Blue Eagles claimed its second victory of the 2018 William Jones Cup on Wednesday, escaping with a hard-earned 80-74 triumph over Japan at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in Taiwan. It was a difficult game for the defending UAAP champions, who led by as much as 14 points in the third quarter but had to weather numerous rallies by the gritty Japanese team in the final quarter. A huge block by Ferdinand Ravena (189-G-96) in the final 90 seconds, followed by a clutch hook shot from Angelo...   [read more]
