B League D3 Round 2: Tokyo Excel. defeats Kagoshima in the closest game of the week - Oct 9, 2017

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in B League D3. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games.

The most exciting game of round 2 in the B League D3 took place in Renova. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of Kagoshima (0-4) to Tokyo Excel. (3-1) 85-84 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Kagoshima was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 10-point lead after three quarters before a 28-17 charge of Tokyo Excel., which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 21 Kagoshima turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Kagoshima helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Jordan Faison (201-94, college: Cal Poly Pomona) had a double-double by scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Justin Herold (203-91, college: Sonoma St.) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. American forward Chris Olivier (203-92, college: Oklahoma St.) responded with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Tokyo Excel.'s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tokyo Tokyo HT.

Point guard Masaya Ueda (177-93) notched 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Nishi Yutaro supported him with 17 points. Even 29 points and 6 rebounds by American forward Ray Raymond (203-84, college: Wisconsin) did not help to save the game for Otsuka A.. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Saitama Broncos will play against Tokyo Cinq R. (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Otsuka A. will play against Kagoshima (#8) in Renova and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Brennan McElroy had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals to lead the charge for the winners. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tokyo HT's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tokyo to the arena Tokyo Excel..

In the last game of round 2 Tokyo HT destroyed Tokyo Cinq R. on the opponent's court 93-42.

American Justin Herold (203-91, college: Sonoma St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 21 rebounds. The other American import forward Jordan Faison (201-94, college: Cal Poly Pomona) contributed with 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American forward Chris Olivier (203-92, college: Oklahoma St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds and swingman Hayate Yamashita (193-92) added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Kagoshima. Four Kagoshima players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Tokyo Cinq R. to just 7 points in first and third quarters. Tokyo HT held Tokyo Cinq R. to an opponent 23.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 56.6 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Tokyo Cinq R. 52-27 including a 39-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Tokyo HT looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Tokyo Cinq R.'s players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tokyo HT made 8 blocks.
