Ryan Stephan
American Ryan Stephan (208-C-94) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Gunma and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com B League D2 Player of the Week award for round 3.
The 23-year old center had a double-double of 33 points and eleven rebounds, while his team crushed, the league's bottom-ranked team Aomori Watts (#5, 0-4) with 21-point margin 96-75. Gunma maintains the 5th position in their group in Japanese B League D2. Gunma is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 2-2 record. In the team's last game Stephan had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range. He turned to be Gunma's top player in his first season with the team. Mesa State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Stephan is in league's top in points (2nd best: 23.0ppg), rebounds (8th best: 10.3rpg) and averages solid 61.5% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 27-year old American forward Joe Burton (201-F-90) of Aomori Watts. Burton impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 25 points and 16 rebounds. Bad luck as Aomori Watts lost that game 75-96 to Gunma (2-2). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Burton is a newcomer at Aomori Watts and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.0ppg (#5). His other stats are also decent: 12.7rpg and 5.3apg.

The third best performed player last round was American Josh Hawkinson (208-F-95) of Toyotsu FE (#3). Hawkinson scored 24 points and grabbed sixteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Hawkinson's great performance Toyotsu FE lost 85-96 to #3 ranked Ehime OV. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Toyotsu FE needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in West. Their record is 3 victories and 1 lost game. Hawkinson has a great season in Japan. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.7ppg (9th best) and rebounds with 13.3rpg (4th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Herbert Hill (208-F-84) of Toyotsu FE - 16 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Olu Ashaolu (200-PF-88) of Sendai 89ers - 19 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Reginald Warren (204-F-81) of Kagawa FA - 13 points, 20 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Eric Jacobsen (208-PF-94) of Fukuoka Rizing - 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Andrew Fitzgerald (202-C/F-90) of Kanazawa Sam. - 26 points and 7 rebounds
9. Yasuhiro Yamashita (187-G-86) of Fukuoka Rizing - 11 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Ide Yuji (181-G-88) of Kanazawa Sam. - 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

The Ateneo Blue Eagles claimed its second victory of the 2018 William Jones Cup on Wednesday, escaping with a hard-earned 80-74 triumph over Japan at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in Taiwan. It was a difficult game for the defending UAAP champions, who led by as much as 14 points in the third quarter but had to weather numerous rallies by the gritty Japanese team in the final quarter.
