All games for rest of the season called off - Mar 18, 2011 TOKYO, Japan (JBL/WJBL): The JBL and WJBL games for the rest of the season have been called off in the wake of the disaster that struck north-east Japan. The WJBL also went ahead and announced the final rankings for the season based on the results of the semifinals and standings in the Regular Season. Only one game in the best-of-five Finals had been played with defending champions JX Sunflowers beating Toyota Antelopes 76-65. JX Sunflowers, based on that win and their No 1 status in the Regular Season were named the champions for the season. Toyota Antelopes were named No 2 followed by Denso Iris. Fujitsu Red Wave overcame Toyota 74:72. Trailing 13-15 after the first period the winners needed the wins in the second and the third quarters. JX Sunflowers meanwhile outscored Denso Iris 61:46. for the Final spot. The last quarter was decisive in the game when the favorites produced 21-12. In the Final game JX Sunflowers rolled over Fujitsu Red Wave 73:68. The winners started with 15-13 in the first period, but Fujitsu Red Wave grabbed the lead at the halftime due to 15-12 in the second frame. In the third quarter JX produced a 26-23 for 2-point advantage after three quarters and celebrated the win due to 20-17 in the last stanza. Ramu Tokashiki (191-C-91) stepped up with 21 points for the winners and Asami Yoshida (165-G-87) added 19. Nagi Yoko (175-F-82) responded with 19 points in the losing effort and Megumi Shinohara (184-F-91) netted 17. |
