The basketball federation of Iraq has agreed terms with 52 years old experienced Iraqi Coach and the current coach of Al Gharafa Doha Club in Qatar coach Kosay Hatem to be the head coach of senior national team for upcoming events.
Two Competitions are waiting for Iraqi National Team in the upcoming few weeks, The first competition is William Jones Cup between 12 to 21 July and Fiba Asia Cup Qualifying Games First Window in November where the draw placed Iraq behind Lebanon, Bahrain and India National Teams in one group.
Coach Kosay consider one of the most successful Iraqi coaches abroad and in the Arabic world, for the last 10 seasons he coached Al Gharafa Doha Club in Qatar and led the team for many titles and achievements, He won the Qatari League title one time, Emir Cup Winner 4 times, Qatari Cup Winner 3 times, 2 Times Asia-basket.com Qatar League coach of the year, 3 times Best Foreigner coach in Qatar by Qatari Olympic Committee. He also coached several clubs in the region in Syria and Lebanon, he started his coaching career with one of The most prestigious clubs in Lebanon Sagesse - Al Hekmeh Beirut Club since 1993 until 2000 when he worked as assistant and won many titles with the club, 3 times Lebanese League Champion, 4 times Lebanese Cup Winner, 2 times Arab Club Championships Winner and 3 times Asian Club Championships Winner plus his experience with Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut or 4 seasons, Blue Stars for 2 seasons, Hoops Club for 1 season and Al Ittihad Aleppo Club in Syria for 1 season.
He also had several experienced with National Teams, he led Qatar National Team to the Gold Medal in Pan Arab Games Competition in 2011 plus his long experience with Lebanese National Team as Assistant Coach, interim Head coach and Head coach where he coached in big basketball events like Asian Games in Doha 2006, World Championships in Japan 2006 and Asian Championships in Tokushima (Japan) 2007.
