Torrington Cox
Nift Al-Janoub (IBL) landed 33-year old Bahamas international forward Torrington Cox (201-95kg-85, college: King). It is actually his comeback to Basra as he has played here before. Cox started the season at Stingers in Bahamas NPBA. In 9 games he averaged very impressive 15.0ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.7apg and 1.6spg this season.
Part of last season Cox spent at Nift Al-Janoub
(Superleague). It was a very successful season in his career as he was
awarded Asia-Basket.com All-Iraqi League Forward of the Year, selected
to 1st Team and selected to All-Imports Team.
In 2008 (a year after he left the college) Cox was drafted by Utah Flash (D-League) in seventh round (105th overall).
He attended King University (NCAA Div.II) until 2007 and it is his twelfth (!!!) season in pro basketball.
Cox's team made it to the Kuwait Federation Cup Final Four in 2013.
He
also represented Bahamas at the CBC Championships in Tortola (British
Virgin Islands) four years ago. Cox's team won Silver and his stats at
that event were 6 games: 6.5ppg, 4.0rpg, FGP: 47.8%, 3PT: 25.0%, FT:
45.5%.
Cox is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the
world as his pro career brought him to eight different countries on four
different continents (Asia, Latin America, Africa and of course North
America). Cox has played previously professionally in Chile (CD
Sagrados), Colombia (Piratas), Mexico (Fuerza Regia and Meteoros), Qatar
(Qatar Sports Club), Saudi Arabia (Uhud), Kuwait (Al Qadsia), United
Arab Emirates (Banijas) and Libya (Ahly Benghazi).
His game is described as:
He is a very athletic player who has a lot of skills and is very
versatile as far as the positions he can play. He has the size to play
inside while having the quickness and shooting touch to play on the
perimeter. He handles the ball well and can attack the basket off the
dribble while having range out to three point distance. Offensively his
skills are very high.
