IBL Round 19: Zakho defeats Nift Al-Janoub in the closest game of the week - Feb 24, 2019

The most exciting game of round 19 in the IBL took place in Zakho. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Nift Al-Janoub (11-6) to eighth ranked Zakho (6-11) 87-84 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Nift Al-Janoub. Zakho moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Al-Tadamoun. Nift Al-Janoub at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Zakho is looking forward to face Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya (#10) in Baghdad in the next round. Nift Al-Janoub's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Basra Al Mina.
The game in Basra was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Al Shurtah (16-2) played at the court of 6th ranked Al Mina (7-10). Al Shurtah defeated Al Mina 93-83. Al Shurtah have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Al Karkh. Al Mina at the other side keeps the sixth place with ten games lost. Al Shurtah will play against Al-Tadamoun (#8) in Najef in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Mina's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Basra to the arena Nift Al-Janoub.
11th ranked AL-Adhamiya (1-17) was outscored at home by third ranked Al Naft (15-2) with the biggest margin this round 93-58 on Saturday night. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Al Naft. Defending champion maintains third place with 15-2 record behind leader Al Shurtah. AL-Adhamiya lost their sixteenth game in a row. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 17 lost games. Al Naft will meet league's second-placed Al Karkh on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AL-Adhamiya will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 19 Al Kahraba was destroyed by Al Karkh on the opponent's court 96-62. Al Hilla managed to outperform Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya in a home game 76-64.



Al Karkh - Al Kahraba 96-62

Rather expected game when 5th ranked Al Kahraba (9-8) was crushed on the road by second ranked Al Karkh (16-2) 96-62 on Thursday. Al Karkh keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Al Shurtah. Loser Al Kahraba keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Al Karkh will meet at home Al Naft (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Al Kahraba will play against Al Hilla and hope to secure a win.

Al Hilla - Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya 76-64

The game between closely ranked teams ended with ninth ranked Al Hilla's (5-12) home victory over 10th ranked Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya (3-14) 76-64 on Friday. Al Hilla maintains ninth place with 5-12 record. Loser Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya keeps the tenth position with 14 games lost. Al Hilla will meet higher ranked Al Kahraba (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya will play against Zakho (#7) and hope to secure a win.

Zakho - Nift Al-Janoub 87-84

The most exciting game of round 19 in the IBL took place in Zakho. QIYDAR DAVIS Al Gharafa Doha (D1) inked 25-year old American guard Qiydar Davis (198-91kg-93, college: Indiana State, agency: SDJ Sports). He started the season at Al Karkh in Iraqi IBL league.
