IBL Round 17: Nift Al-Janoub defeats leader Al Karkh - Feb 16, 2019

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in IBL. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Al Karkh (14-2) at the home court on Thursday night. Hosts were edged by fourth ranked Nift Al-Janoub (10-5) 79-76. Nift Al-Janoub maintains fourth place with 10-5 record. Al Karkh at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Al Naft. Nift Al-Janoub are looking forward to face Al Hilla (#9) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Al Karkh will play against Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya (#10) in Baghdad and is hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Baghdad: Al Naft (#3) and Al Kahraba (#5). Al Naft (14-2) crushed visiting Al Kahraba (8-7) by 17 points 96-79. Al Naft have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Karkh. Al Kahraba at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Al Naft will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al Kahraba's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Baghdad AL-Adhamiya.
IBL top team - Al Shurtah (15-2) had no problems winning another game on Tuesday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Zakho (5-11) in Baghdad 107-81. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Al Shurtah. They maintain first place with 15-2 record. Newly promoted Zakho dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Al-Tadamoun. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Al Hilla will play on the road against Nift Al-Janoub (#4) in Basra and hope to win that game.
The game in Zakho was also quite interesting. 7th ranked Al-Tadamoun (5-11) played at the court of eighth ranked Zakho (5-11). Zakho did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 98-79 on Monday. Zakho moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Al-Tadamoun. Zakho will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 17 Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya beat AL-Adhamiya on the road 76-68.



Al Shurtah - Zakho 107-81

IBL top team - Al Shurtah (15-2) had no problems winning another game on Tuesday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Zakho (5-11) in Baghdad 107-81. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Al Shurtah. They maintain first place with 15-2 record. Newly promoted Zakho dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Al-Tadamoun. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Al Karkh - Nift Al-Janoub 76-79

AL-Adhamiya - Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya 68-76

The game between closely ranked teams ended with tenth ranked Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya's (3-12) road victory over bottom-ranked AL-Adhamiya (1-15) in Baghdad 76-68 on Saturday. Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya maintains tenth place with 3-12 record. AL-Adhamiya lost their fourteenth game in a row. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya will face league's second-placed Al Karkh at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. AL-Adhamiya's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Baghdad to the arena Al Kahraba.

Zakho - Al-Tadamoun 98-79

The game in Zakho was also quite interesting. 7th ranked Al-Tadamoun (5-11) played at the court of eighth ranked Zakho (5-11).
