IBL Round 15: Nift Al-Janoub loses to Al Naft in the game between Top 4 teams - Jan 27, 2019

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between Top Four teams took place in Baghdad. Third ranked host Al Naft (12-2) smashed 4th placed Nift Al-Janoub (8-5) 90-71. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Nift Al-Janoub. Al Naft have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Shurtah. Nift Al-Janoub at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Al Naft's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Baghdad to the arena Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya.
IBL top team - Al Karkh (14-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Al-Tadamoun (4-10) 100-79. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Al Karkh. They maintain first place with 14-0 record. Al-Tadamoun at the other side dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. Al Karkh will play against league's second-placed Al Shurtah in Baghdad in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Al-Tadamoun will play at home against Al Hilla (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Al Hilla was also quite interesting. Sixth ranked Al Mina (6-8) played at the court of 7th ranked Al Hilla (4-9). Al Mina managed to secure a 4-point victory 78-74 on Friday. Al Mina maintains sixth place with 6-8 record. Al Hilla lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Zakho. Al Mina will meet at home Zakho (#7) in the next round. Al Hilla will play against Al-Tadamoun in Najef and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
11th ranked AL-Adhamiya (1-13) was outscored at home by second ranked Al Shurtah (12-2) with the biggest margin this round 110-58. Al Shurtah maintains second place with 12-2 record having just two points less than leader Al Karkh, which they share with Al Naft. AL-Adhamiya lost their twelfth game in a row. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Al Shurtah's next round opponent will be league's leader Al Karkh at home and it will be for sure the game of the week. AL-Adhamiya will play against Nift Al-Janoub (#4) and hope to win that game.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Baghdad: Al Kahraba (#5) and Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya (#10). Al Kahraba (8-6) won against visiting Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya (2-11) 92-88. Al Kahraba maintains fifth place with 8-6 record. Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 11 games lost. Al Kahraba will have a break next round. Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Baghdad Al Naft.



Al Hilla - Al Mina 74-78

Naft Baghdad celebrate League title - 2 months ago
Naft Baghdad clinched the Iraqi League title. They swept the championship series versus Shurtah. Naft earned a comfortable 88:70 victory in Game 3 to complete the sweep. Naft enjoyed a 40:35 halftime lead. They went on a 33:18 run in the third term to clear off for good. Ali Ismael (199-F-94) was named the MVP.
