IBL Round 8: Al Karkh beats Al Kahraba by two after a very close game - Dec 10, 2018

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game of round 8 in the IBL took place in Baghdad. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 4th ranked Al Kahraba (4-3) to top-ranked Al Karkh (8-0) 79-77 on Friday evening. Undefeated Al Karkh have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-0 record. Al Kahraba at the other side keeps the fourth place with three games lost. Al Karkh are looking forward to face Al Naft (#3) in Baghdad in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Al Kahraba will play at home against Zakho and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
The game between third ranked Al Naft (6-1) and 11th ranked AL-Adhamiya (1-7) in Baghdad ended with biggest points difference. Al Naft outscored guests from Baghdad 104-38. Al Naft have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Shurtah. AL-Adhamiya lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Al Naft will play against league's leader Al Karkh at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AL-Adhamiya will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 8 Al Hilla beat Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya on the road 86-81. Nift Al-Janoub won against Zakho on its own court 86-76.

Al Naft - AL-Adhamiya 104-38

Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya - Al Hilla 81-86

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Al Hilla (3-4) beat 9th ranked Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya (1-6) in Baghdad 86-81. Al Hilla maintains seventh position with 3-4 record. Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya at the other side dropped to the tenth place with six games lost. Al Hilla will play against higher ranked Al Kahraba (#4) in Baghdad in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Al-Khtot Al-Jawiya will play on the road against Zakho (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Nift Al-Janoub - Zakho 86-76

Rather expected game when 9th ranked Zakho (1-5) lost to sixth ranked Nift Al-Janoub (3-3) in Basra 76-86. Nift Al-Janoub moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Al Mina. Zakho lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with five games lost. Nift Al-Janoub's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Basra to the arena Al Mina.

AUSTIN MOFUNANYA Al Karkh (IBL) signed 24-year old American (has also Nigerian passport) forward Austin Mofunanya (198-107kg-94, college: Pace, agency: SDJ Sports). He started the season at Ammerud Bskt in Norwegian BLNO. In 20 games he had very impressive stats: 22.5ppg, 10.4rpg, 2.9apg, 2.3spg and 1.3bpg this season. The last season Mofunanya played at C.D. QIYDAR DAVIS Al Gharafa Doha (D1) inked 25-year old American guard Qiydar Davis (198-91kg-93, college: Indiana State, agency: SDJ Sports). He started the season at Al Karkh in Iraqi IBL league. The last season Davis played at Indiana State University in NCAA where in 28 games he recorded 10.3ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.0apg and 1.6spg. His team was regular season runner-up in C-USA in 2017.
