Al Nift wins their first league title over Al Shurtah !! - May 26, 2017

Al Nift Baghdad celebrated Iraqi Super League title for their first time in Iraqi basketball history, They edged Al Shurtah Police in the final game 84-82 after dramatic game where Al Shurtah Police was leading the game by 16 points but Al Nift Baghdad stood up in the last minutes of game to turn the result to brilliant won over Al Shurath, the both teams played on 3rd & 4th positions game last season where Al Shurtah Police beat Al Nift Baghdad and grabbed the 3rd position, but this season was different story Al Nift Baghdad beat Al Shurtah Police 5 times this season !! 2 in the regular season 2 in the 2nd stage of the league and the last one in the final game which give them advantage 5-0 over Al Shurtah Police to win the title.
After he was the best scorer in the league season 2015-2016, Demario Mayfield (196-G/F-91, college: Angelo St.) shined again this season and helped the team to achieve this achievement with his average 29.2ppg, 8.4rpg, 7.9apg in 31 games !!
The first quarter ended 23-19 for Al Shurtah Police, 2nd quarter, 41-39 for Al Shurtah Police, 3rd quarter 62-58 for Al Shurtah Police but the 4th quarter ended 82-84 for Al Nift Baghdad.
Demario lead his team performance with 30pts 11rebs & 4 ast his teammate the swingman of iraq national team Karrar Jasem ended the game with 23pts while from Al Shurtah Police Justin Hawkins was the best scorer in the team with 34 points 6rebs & 5asst, Kenny Brown 23pts 5reb & 6asst and Salah Mahdi with 13pts 13rebs.
