Iranian Superleague round 5 best performance: Amir Taherkhani

Amir Taherkhani had a very impressive game in the last round for top-ranked Palayesh Naft Abadan, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 5.
The player had a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds, while his team edged out Limondis (#9, 1-4) 79-75. It allowed Naft Abadan to consolidate first place in the Iranian Superleague. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Naft Abadan already had a very good start winning all 5 without losing a single one. Taherkhani turned to be Naft Abadan's top player in his first season with the team. Amir Taherkhani averages this season 15.8ppg and 6.2rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was young international Mohammad Jamshidi (199-SF-1991, agency: BIG) of Mahram Tehran. Jamshidi had a very good evening with 33 points and 5 assists. Bad luck as Mahram was edged by the higher-ranked Gorgan (#2, 4-1) 84-81. This loss caused Mahram to drop to 6th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 3-2 record is not bad and everything may still change. Jamshidi is a newcomer at Mahram, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 26.0ppg (#2). He also recorded 4.8 assists per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was Mohsen Varankeshi of Raad Padafand Mashhad (#11). Varankeshi showcased his all-around game by recording 20 points, ten rebounds and four assists in the last round. Despite Varankeshi's great performance Raad lost 74-115 to the higher-ranked Tabiat (#3, 4-1). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Raad can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-4 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Varankeshi has individually a great season in Iran. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.0rpg (7th best).
