Superleague Round 10: Petrochimi beat Naft Abadan by three after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 10 in the Superleague took place in Bandar Imam. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 3rd ranked Naft Abadan (8-2) to first ranked Petrochimi (10-1) 69-66 on Monday evening. 31 personal fouls committed by Naft Abadan helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Sajjad Mashayekhi (180-94) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 rebounds. International Mohammad Hassanzadeh (203-90) contributed with 6 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. The former international swingman Saeid Davarpanah (190-87, agency: Interperformances) replied with 19 points and 6 rebounds for Naft Abadan. Petrochimi have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-1 record. Defending champion Naft Abadan keeps the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Mahram. Petrochimi are looking forward to face league's second-placed Gorgan on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Naft Abadan will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Kerman. Eighth ranked Shahrdari BA (5-6) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 13th ranked Kerman (1-8) 69-66 on Monday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. American-Guyanese forward Kedar Edwards (196-93, college: UT Martin) scored 18 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Mohammad Yazdanpanah chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Mohsen Abedi responded with 9 points and 17 rebounds. Shahrdari BA have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Exxon SC. Kerman lost eighth consecutive game. Kerman at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the thirteenth position with eight games lost. Shahrdari BA will play against Toufarghan (#10) in Azarshahr in the next round. Kerman will play on the road against Army in Tehran and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Mahram moved-up to third place, which they share with Naft Abadan. Loser Army dropped to the eleventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Raad. Mahram will meet Mashad (#6) in the next round. Army's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tehran Chemidor.

Other games in round 10 were not that significant. Zob Ahan was beaten by Chemidor on the road 89-82. Bottom-ranked Shahrdari Q. was destroyed by Mashad on its own court 64-85. Gorgan managed to outperform Toufarghan in a road game 73-61. Exxon SC rolled over Raad at home 83-61.
The most impressive performance of 10th round was 29 points and 9 rebounds by Ebrahim Beigi of Raad.



Mahram - Army 89-50

The game between fourth ranked Mahram (8-2) and 12th ranked Army (2-9) in Tehran on Monday ended with biggest points difference. Mahram outscored guests from Tehran 89-50. Mahram dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Army's 28. Mahram forced 21 Army turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Army's players. International power forward Amirhossein Khandanpour (203-98) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the former international forward Mohammad Nikkhah (199-83) supported him with 21 points and 10 assists. Four Mahram players scored in double figures. Even 11 points and 7 rebounds by Ashkan Jafari did not help to save the game for Army. Guard Hossein Zakeri (185-99) added 14 points for lost side. Very expected game when 14th ranked Shahrdari Q. (1-9) was smashed by sixth ranked Mashad (7-3) in Qazvin 85-64 on Monday. Mashad maintains sixth position with 7-3 record. Shahrdari Q. lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Toufarghan - Gorgan 61-73

Very predictable result when second ranked Gorgan (9-1) won against 10th ranked Toufarghan (3-8) in Azarshahr 73-61 on Monday. They outrebounded Toufarghan 47-24 including a 21-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. International guard Navid Rezaeifar (185-96) notched 23 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international forward Amir Sedighi (203-93) supported him with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Gorgan's coach Mehran Shahintab used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 15 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals by Canadian guard Kelvin Amayo (193-92, college: Loyola Mary) did not help to save the game for Toufarghan. Spanish center Gracin Bakumanya (211-97) added 13 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Four Toufarghan players scored in double figures. Gorgan maintains second position with 9-1 record behind leader Petrochimi. Toufarghan lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth place with eight games lost. Gorgan will meet at home league's leader Petrochimi in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toufarghan will play against Shahrdari BA (#7) in Abbass and hope to secure a win.
