TEHRAN (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers) - Mohammad Jamshidi (199-SF-91) knows that the fifth window will be crucial for Iran's World Cup qualification hopes, but he remains unfazed by the pressure.

"It's not about pressure at all," he said. "It's a challenge for us, and we are focused and prepared for every game."

Despite being just 27 years old, this is already Jamshidi's sevenths year playing for the national team, and with many of the old guard no longer active, he has inherited the mantle of seasoned veteran for the squad. He is aware that this changes his role on the team, and he relishes being one of their new leaders on and off the court.
"My role on the national team is to create for other people and score the ball," he explained. "But especially right now, I need to lead them as an experienced player."

Team Melli will need the 6ft 6in (1.99m) wingman to be at his best form when they tip off in the fifth window. At 6 wins and 2 losses, Iran are in good shape, but netting two wins in the coming window will formalize their entry into the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.

In their way will be FIBA Asia Cup 2017 champions Australia and the Philippines, Asia Cup runners-up in 2013 and 2015. Jamshidi knows all too well how challenging the task awaiting them will be, especially against the Filipinos, against whom Jamshidi has played many times.

"Playing against the Philippines is always tough," he said. "They have quick and aggressive shooters, and this window they will come with their main team. It will be a hard game. I have played the Philippines a lot of times, and I know this game will be like hell for us."

In his first time to play at the Asia Cup with the national squad way back in 2013, Jamshidi faced the Philippines in the Final at the Mall of Asia Arena, which provided a memorable and energetic atmosphere. Jamshidi still remembers that match, which they won en route to the Asia Cup 2013 crown.
"It was a tough game in a big arena with 20 thousand people five years ago," he recalled. "We were ready and focused in that game, and we did it great. What I know from playing playing against the Philippines is that it's always tough no matter where you play and which players you face."

Jamshidi knows the road ahead won't be strewn with flowers and rainbows for Iran. He expects to be severely tested in the next Asian Qualifiers window, but he also knows the team is in good shape. For him, the significance of making it to the World Cup trumps any pressure and any anxiety the squad may be facing. They want to qualify for the global basketball competition for the third time in a row.
"It's really important for us to be part of the World Cup in China," he said. "For sure, it will help basketball be more papular in Iran and help the young payers gain valuable experience at the world stage."

Iran first face Australia in Melbourne on 30 November before they play the Philippines in Manila on 3 December.

Palayesh Naft Abadan defeated Shahrdari Gorgan in Game 4 and won the title of the Iran Basketball Super League in Abadan on Thursday.
