Defending champion Petrochimi Bandar Imam Harbour (Superleague) inked 30-year old Nigerian ex-international power forward Gani Lawal (206-106kg-88, college: Georgia Tech). He started the season at Karesi Spor in Turkish TBL league. In 16 games he averaged impressive 16.4ppg, 9.8rpg and 1.4bpg this season. He was also selected League Player of the Week (2 times). The last season Lawal played at Banco di Srd in Italian Serie A where in 22 games he had 10.3ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.2bpg. He helped them to make it to the cup final. Lawal also played 11 games in Basketball Champions League where he recorded 9.0ppg and 3.5rpg. He contributed to his team making it to the quarterfinals. The other team Lawal played that season for was MIA-Red October Cantu (Serie A) in Italy. In 9 games he got 11.9ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.3bpg.
In 2010 he was drafted by Phoenix Suns (NBA) in second round (46th overall). The former Georgia Tech standoutis in his eighth season in pro basketball.
Among other achievements he won Italian SerieA championship title in 2014. Lawal received also Eurobasket.com All-Italian SerieA 2nd Team award back in 2013. Strangely he also played for Nigerian National Team in 2013.
Lawal played at the Gulf Club Championships Winner two years ago.
He is a very experienced player. Lawal has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to ten different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). Lawal has played previously professionally in China (Guangzhou Liu Sui), France, Greece (Panathinaikos), Latvia (VEF Riga), Poland, Italy (Virtus Roma), NBA (Phi.76ers), United Arab Emirates (Ahli Shabab) and NBA G League (Reno Bighorns, Delaware 87ers and Westchester Knicks).
