Great Coaching Wins Saba Battery Championship Title
The Iranian Super League (ISL) ended last Thursday, as Saba Battery were crowned champions, and an all-time record was established by Coach Mr. Mehran Shahintab, gaining 3 titles for the first time in Iranian basketball.
Saba Battery were playing in the ISL finals for the fourth time this season, and won the last game against the host Petrochimi, while they were 4 points behind in the last seconds, 67-71; in a packed stadium with over 5000 pro-Petrochimi spectators in the small town of Mahshahr, nobody believed that Saba would win their second straight game in a 2-out-of-3 finals. The scoreboard was showing 72 tie, when Saba was given two free-throws and just one point was enough for them to finish the job 73-72.
Experts and writers said Shahintab could undoubtedly be named “The King of Over-Times”, as in five games in the semi-final stage, Saba came from behind and won the game, taking the lead in over-time. Shahintab himself believes that time management and how you deal with the players specially the imports, on and off the court, are the two key points in successful coaching.
