IBL Round 14 (Regular Season): Dewa United hands first loss to Pelita Jaya

The most surprising game was the first loss of Pelita Jaya (13-1) in Jakarta on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Dewa United (7-6) 81-70. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Pelita Jaya. American players dominated the game. point guard DJ Cooper (183-1990, college: Ohio) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Forward Troy Gillenwater (205-1988, college: NM State) contributed with 18 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Guard Amorie Archibald (192-1999, college: La Tech, agency: Olsta) replied with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for Pelita Jaya. Defending champion maintains fifth position with 7-6 record. Pelita Jaya at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost. Dewa United are looking forward to face Hangtuah (#8) in Jakarta in the next round. Pelita Jaya will play on the road against Borneo (#3) in Pontianak and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Eighth-ranked Rajawali (5-10) was very close to win a game against second ranked Satria Muda (12-2) in Jakarta. Satria Muda managed to secure only two-point victory 89-87. However their fans expected much easier game. American center Chad Brown (206-1996, college: UCF) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Jalen Jones chipped in 18 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. South Sudanese-Lebanese center Ater Majok (210-1987, college: UConn, agency: BIG) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Satria Muda have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 12-2 record behind leader Pelita Jaya, which they share with Borneo. Rajawali lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with ten games lost. Satria Muda will play against Pacific Caesar (#10) in Surabaya in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rajawali's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Jakarta to the arena Hangtuah.

Tangerang managed to escape with a 3-point win 89-86 on Wednesday evening. Jeantal Cylla notched 39 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 35 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds by Nick Hornsby did not help to save the game for Hangtuah. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Tangerang maintains fourth position with 8-6 record. Hangtuah lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with nine games lost. Tangerang will meet RANS PIK (#6) in the next round. Hangtuah will play against Dewa United and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 14: Dewa United beat Satya Wacana on the road 86-75. Kesatria won against Pacific Caesar on its own court 98-91. RANS PIK managed to outperform Satria Muda in Gor Merpati 95-84. Kesatria managed to beat Hangtuah at home 93-90.



Satya Wacana - Dewa United 75-86

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Dewa United (7-6) beat bottom-ranked Satya Wacana (1-13) in Salatiga 86-75 on Wednesday. Dewa United dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Satya Wacana's 32. They outrebounded Satya Wacana 42-26 including a 15-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Dewa United looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American-Mexican center Joshua Ibarra (211-1995, college: HCU) notched a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and American point guard DJ Cooper (183-1990, college: Ohio) supported him with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Even 20 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists by American Leon Gilmore III (201-1995, college: SF Austin) did not help to save the game for Satya Wacana. Ukrainian power forward Serhii Pavlov (209-1997, agency: BIG) added 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains fifth position with 7-6 record. Satya Wacana lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 13 games lost. Dewa United will meet Hangtuah (#8) in the next round. Satya Wacana will play against Borneo in Pontianak and hope to win that game.

American Kentrell Barkley (194-1996, college: ECU, agency: Haylett Sports) notched a double-double by scoring 31 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) to lead the effort and the other American import guard Rayvonte Rice (193-1992, college: Illinois) supported him with 32 points and 6 rebounds. Even a double-double of 34 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals by American-Dominican forward AJ Bramah (201-1999, college: Nevada) did not help to save the game for Pacific Caesar. Nigerian-Malaysian power forward Joseph Obasa (208-1999) added 24 points and 11 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the guests. Kesatria have a solid three-game winning streak. RANS PIK outrebounded Satria Muda 48-37 including a 36-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. American-Mexican forward Aaron Fuller (198-1989, college: USC, agency: Haylett Sports) notched 41 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds to lead the effort and American forward KJ Buffen (201-2000, college: UAB) supported him with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists. Even a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds by American forward Jalen Jones (202-1993, college: Texas A&M, agency: Haylett Sports) did not help to save the game for Satria Muda. International point guard Yudha Saputera (176-1998) added 20 points and 7 assists for the hosts. Four RANS PIK and five Satria Muda players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. RANS PIK moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Kesatria. Four Kesatria players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 31 points and 14 rebounds by American forward Nick Hornsby (201-1995, college: Sacramento St.) did not help to save the game for Hangtuah.
