IBL Round 8 (Regular Season): Borneo lose to Satria Muda

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise took place in Jakarta where host Satria Muda (6-1) beat league's leader Borneo (6-1) 76-69 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Borneo. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Satria Muda made 8 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by Borneo helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Jalen Jones (202-1993, college: Texas A&M, agency: Haylett Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks. Center Chad Brown (206-1996, college: UCF) chipped in 22 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Stephaun Branch (196-1995, college: UWG) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Satria Muda moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Borneo. Borneo will play next round against Pacific Caesar trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Satria Muda will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Hangtuah. It will be extra interesting game as Hangtuah is their local rival from Jakarta.

Borneo's coach Cesar Camara used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. AJ Bramah responded with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Borneo (6-1) have an impressive six-game winning streak. Despite that victory Borneo went down to second position due to points difference, which they share with Satria Muda. Loser Pacific Caesar still closes the standings with six games lost. Borneo will again meet Pacific Caesar (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pacific Caesar will play against RANS PIK in Gor Merpati and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Rest of the games of round 8 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Tangerang defeated Kesatria in a road game 83-70. Winless Satya Wacana was beaten by Hangtuah at home 70-79. Rajawali was destroyed by RANS PIK on the opponent's court 99-70.

Kesatria - Tangerang 70-83

Worth to mention a great performance of Brazilian center Joao Franca (215-1998) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and American forward Josh Cunningham (203-1996, college: Dayton, agency: Diamond Sports) who added 22 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. American Kentrell Barkley (194-1996, college: ECU, agency: Haylett Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists and his fellow American import swingman Rashad Vaughn (198-1996, college: UNLV, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tangerang moved-up to sixth place. Loser Kesatria keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Tangerang will meet Pacific Caesar (#10) in the next round. Kesatria will play against Dewa United and hope to win that game.

Leader Borneo delivered the sixth victory on Sunday night. This time they beat bottom-ranked Pacific Caesar (0-6) 99-81 in Pontianak. Borneo dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Pacific Caesar's 40. They outrebounded Pacific Caesar 51-36 including 18 on the offensive glass. Borneo looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists.
