Though having secured slots to the FIBA U16 Asia Cup in Mongolia this July, the Philippines and Indonesia, both unbeaten going to Wednesday's SEABA Qualifiers game, nonetheless went at each other like a championship was at stake, drawing non-stop roar from the packed Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in Pampanga. In effect, it was — a prelude to a potential gold medal clash between the two teams on Friday although Gilas Pilipinas Youth coach LA Tenorio isn't looking that far ahead. With a 4-0 slate, the Philippines wrap up the preliminaries against Malaysia on Thursday, with the championship game scheduled the next day. The 77-68 victory over the Indonesians was a virtual cliffhanger for the Nationals, who had ran roughshod over Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand in their first three games.
