IBL Round 5: Pelita Jaya is defeated by Pacific Caesar

After 5 rounds played we can already see who rules in the IBL and who belongs to weaker ones. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most surprising game was the first loss of Pelita Jaya (2-1) in Jakarta on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by seventh ranked Pacific Caesar (2-1) 74-61. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pelita Jaya. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Pacific Caesar dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Pelita Jaya's 22. American-Filipino guard Taylor Statham (198-92, college: CS San Bernar.) stepped up and scored 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American-Dominican swingman Luis Jacobo (196-91, college: PFW) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Pacific Caesar's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Dior Lowhorn (201-87, college: USF) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Pacific Caesar moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Pelita Jaya. Pacific Caesar is looking forward to face Satria Muda (#4) in Jakarta in the next round. Pelita Jaya will play on the road against Bima Perkasa in Sakti and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very significant was Indonesia P.'s (#2) 22-point road victory against 5th ranked Louvre S. 90-68. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The former international Abraham Grahita (201-95) nailed 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and Lester Prosper accounted for 14 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Michael Kolawole (196, college: Lamar, agency: Haylett Sports) came up with 22 points for Louvre S. in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Indonesia P. (3-1) keeps a position of league leader. Louvre S. at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the seventh place with two games lost. Indonesia P. will play against Prawira (#9) in Bandung in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Louvre S. will have a break next round.

Satya Wacana will meet at home higher ranked NSH (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Prawira will play against the league's leader Indonesia P. and will have a slim chance for a victory.

In the last game of round 5 Bima Perkasa won against Hang Tuah on the opponent's court 69-65.

Satya Wacana has registered their first victory this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Prawira (1-3) 78-76 on Saturday. Strangely Prawira outrebounded Satya Wacana 47-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Satya Wacana made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was American swingman Chris Sterling (196-93, college: Ariz.Christian) who scored 19 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. His fellow American import forward Shane Heyward (200-92, college: Columbus St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 7 blocks. Four Satya Wacana players scored in double figures. American-Jamaican power forward David Samuels (203-91, college: LBSU) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds and American guard Dimitri Cook (188, college: SUNO) added 21 points and 8 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Rather expected game in Pandang where 9th ranked Hang Tuah (1-4) was defeated by sixth ranked Bima Perkasa (2-1) 69-65 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was American guard David Seagers (188-88, college: Dowling) who scored 25 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Nuke Saputra (174-95) chipped in 15 points. American LaQuavius Cotton (198-92, college: Delta St.) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import Darnell Martin (198-91, college: CS Dominguez H.) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Bima Perkasa moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams. Hang Tuah lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with four games lost. Bima Perkasa will meet at home Pelita Jaya (#6) in the next round. Hang Tuah will have a break next round.
