Despite balanced efforts from their teams, both the CLS Knights and KL Dragons still remain winless at Malaysia Hoops Challenge 2018 Day Two. The CLS Knights were defeated by Western Australia SBL 80-61 while the KL Dragons took a loss at the hands of Singapore Adroit. The Knights had no answer for Western Australia SBL who led from start to finish in the comfortable win. Arif Hidayat (184-PG-91) (13), Kaleb Gemilang (183-SF-91) (15), and Katon Baskoro (184-SF-94) (13) were all able to put up double-digit scoring efforts while Firman Dwi Nugroho pulled down 12 rebounds in the losing effort. Coach Jamie Pearlman continues to adjust with his young squad, leaving his imports to do most of scoring for his team. They were able to rally back to within 2 points before the end of the first half, couldn't keep up the pace before the eventual loss. Chris Eversley (201-F-91, college: Cal Poly - SLO) led the team yet again with 22 points, but it also took 27 field goal attempts for him to get there. 'Obviously we wanted to win tonight's game but the goal is to have these players step up and get exposed to this level of playing field,' Chris Eversley said after the loss. 'We lost a pretty big one last night but to see them still stepping up to the challenge tonight really makes me proud.'
The Adroit team from Singapore that beat the Dragons were bannered by familiar faces from the Singapore Slingers. Two-time Local MVP Long Wong Wei had an all-around game of 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Promising forward Leon Kwek had 22 points on 50% shooting and fellow youngster Toh Qing Huang had 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Others ASEAN Basketball League vets faced off in the remaining game of the day which was a highly entertaining duel between Malaysia Red Baron and Malaysia Matrix. Former Dragonforce Freddie Goldstein (who played with CLS Knights last season) and Sammy Monroe (198-F-85, college: Newberry) combined for 50 points to lead Red Baron to an 83-80 win.
