Thailand celebrated the second and the last win in the Championship and saved the place in Level I for the next Championship. Hong Kong meanwhile lost for the second time and stayed in Level II. FIBA Asia Championship for Women said good bye to both teams this year.
Thailand was led 16 points from Naruemol Bamoo. Nantana Charoenrat ended up with 13 points and 7 rebounds, while Roong-Aroon posted 12 points and 8 rebounds. Yau Ka Wai (-78) finished with 11 points in the losing effort.
The first quarter was the open quarter for both squads and both of them played offensive basketball. Thailand took a lead and finished the first with 26:18. The favorites paid more attention to defense in the next two quarters and let the opponents to score only 11 points in the second and the third quarters. Thailand won 13:6 the second and 13:5 the third to have a confident lead before the last quarter. Unfortunately for Hong Kong they had only 29 points in the beginning of the fourth and they worried more about their points than the total score. Thailand overwhelms Hong Kong 71:41 and survives in Level I.
Hong Kong will have better chances in the next Championship in winning the Level II as India qualified to Level I. The latter was the only team in the Preliminary Round that upset Hong Kong.
