The Fiba Asia Championship for Women moved to the second stage. The teams finished the Preliminary round yesterday and now have different tasks to solve. Hong Kong and Thailand will meet each other in the Qualifying Round for one ticket to level I in the next Championship.
Thailand could taste Level I this Championship finishing fifth in Group A. The team realized the chances for the place and took the best they could. In the most important game for the team probably in the tournament Thailand escaped with 75:74 win over Malaysia. Thailand staved off Malaysia's remarkable rally to post their maiden victory in Level I on Wednesday. In all the other games in the group Thailand was far away from the win. The minimum gap with the other teams was 50 points against Chinese Taipei. That time Thailand lost 64:114 with 11 points from Naruemol and Nomjit Tunsaw.
Hong Kong had another task in Group B. Hong Kong managed to grab the maximum from there grabbing the second spot that gave them a chance to advance into the Qualifying Round. One of the most important games was the first game against Uzbekistan that finished third. Hong Kong won 75:56 and continued on a 3-0 streak. The team did not have difficulties over Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
India gave a good lesson to Hong Kong beating them in Day 4. India and Hong Kong came to that game with 3-0 record. India started better and grabbed the lead from the first minutes. Geethu Ann Jose was against the one who ruined the defense of the opponents. In the last day of the Preliminary Round Hong Kong beat Singapore 69:60 to finish at 4-1.
