Fifteenth-ranked Sturgeons (13-23) gave a tough game to first ranked Sharks (33-4) in Shanghai on Friday. Sharks managed to secure only three-point victory 119-116. However their fans expected much easier game. Shanghai dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Sturgeons's 52. Shanghai looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Shanghai made 7 blocks. 26 personal fouls committed by Fujian S. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American forward Kenneth Lofton Jr (201-2002, college: La Tech) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international center Zhelin Wang (214-1994) helped adding 20 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side American point guard QJ Peterson (183-1994, college: VMI, agency: JCK Sports Group) responded with 44 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sharks have a solid series of four victories in a row. Shanghai maintains first place with 33-4 record. Fujian S. lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 23 games lost. Shanghai are looking forward to face Beijing D. (#4) on the road in the next round. Fujian S. will play against Zhejiang GB. (#7) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
Bottom-ranked Blue Whales (0-37) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 37th consecutive match to nineteenth ranked Pioneers (11-26) 111-86. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Scottie James Jr (202-1996, college: Liberty) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Javion Hamlet accounted for 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American-Puerto Rican Kyle Vinales (188-1992, college: CCSU) came up with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for Sichuan in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tianjin P. moved-up to eighteenth place. Sichuan at the other side still closes the standings. Tianjin P. will play against higher ranked Xinjiang (#16) in Urumqi in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sichuan will play at home against Shenzhen L. (#3) having rather not much hope for a victory.
The game in Hangzhou supposed to be also quite interesting. 6th ranked Heroes (23-12) played at the court of seventh ranked Golden Bulls (23-14). Golden Bulls smashed Heroes 95-72 on Saturday. Damian Jones fired a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Baylee Steele produced 17 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Golden Bulls have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Zhejiang GB. maintains seventh place with 23-14 record. Shandong H. lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. Zhejiang GB. will meet Fujian S. (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Shanxi L. won against Xinjiang at home 93-86. Jiangsu D. unfortunately lost to Shenzhen L. on the opponent's court 88-93.




Beijing RF - Beijing D. 65-84

Very expected game in Beijing where 13th ranked Royal Fighters (15-22) were crushed by fourth ranked Ducks (25-12) 84-65 on Friday.
