NBL Round 23 (Regular Season): Hunan is upset by Jiangsu

What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between third ranked Hunan (13-8) and eighth ranked Jiangsu (11-10) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Hunan was defeated by Jiangsu in a tough game in Changsha 82-88. Jiangsu outrebounded Hunan 39-26 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Jianhua Song (200-1991) who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. American center Henry Sims (208-1990, college: Georgetown) chipped in 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Jiangsu's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Iraqi guard Ramon Galloway (190-1991, college: La Salle) produced 28 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the hosts. Jiangsu moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Jiangxi and Shandong. Hunan at the other side keeps the third position with eight games lost. Jiangsu is looking forward to face Guizhou (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hunan will play against the league's second-placed Hefei (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Hebei. Second ranked Hefei faced 4th placed Hebei. Guests from Hefei (17-4) defeated host Hebei (12-9) 105-95. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hebei. The game was dominated by American players. point guard Nate Johnson (193-1998, college: Xavier) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Jordan Walker contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Corey Lamonte (191-1998) answered with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for Hebei. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hefei have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain second place with 17-4 record behind leader HK JinNiu. Hebei at the other side keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. They share it with Shanghai. Hefei will play against Hunan (#3) in Changsha in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Hebei will play on the road against Anhui W. and hopes to get back on the winning track.
We should mention about the upset which took place in Jiangxi, where higher ranked Jiangxi (11-10) lost at home to thirteenth ranked Hubei (8-13) 91-105 on Sunday. It was a great evening for Baylee Steele who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. Michael Bryson responded with 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Jiangxi's coach rotated ten players saving starting five for next games. Hubei moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Hangzhou. Jiangxi lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Jiangsu and Shandong. Hubei will meet league's leader HK JinNiu in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jiangxi will play against Jiaozuo (#9) and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 23 Shanghai crushed Guizhou in a road game 104-79. Hangzhou was beaten by Jiaozuo at home 86-97.

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Guizhou (7-14) was crushed at home by fifth ranked Shanghai (12-9) 104-79 on Sunday. Shanghai looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Guizhou's players. It was a great evening for American forward Shemar Wilson (206-2001, college: UT Arlington) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Marcus LoVett Jr (183-1996, college: St.John's, agency: Octagon Europe) helped adding 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Five Shanghai players scored in double figures. American-Puerto Rican Kyle Vinales (188-1992, college: CCSU) responded with 27 points and 4 steals (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and American swingman Scottie Lindsey (196-1996, college: Northwestern) scored 22 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Shanghai moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Hebei. Loser Guizhou dropped to the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. Shanghai will meet at home Shandong (#6) in the next round. Guizhou will play against Jiangsu (#8) and hope to secure a win.

No shocking result in a game when ninth ranked Jiaozuo (10-11) defeated on the road 11th ranked Hangzhou (8-13) 97-86 on Sunday. Jiaozuo outrebounded Hangzhou 39-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Jiaozuo shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 60.9 percentage. It was a great evening for American-Thailand guard Tra Holder (185-1995, college: Arizona St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 8 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). American swingman Sonny Weems (198-1986, college: Arkansas) helped adding 20 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Jiaozuo players scored in double figures. American center Trevor Thompson (210-1994, college: Ohio St., agency: Octagon Europe) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import forward Cameron McGriff (201-1997, college: OK State) scored 14 points. Hangzhou's coach tested twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Jiaozuo maintains ninth place with 10-11 record. Loser Hangzhou keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost. They share it with Hubei. Jiaozuo will meet higher ranked Jiangxi (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hangzhou will play against Zhangjiakou (#14) and hope to secure a win.
