CBA Round 20 (Regular Season): Top-ranked Guangsha L. wins another game

CBA top team - Guangsha Lions (16-2) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed fourteenth ranked Royal Fighters (7-11) in Beijing 102-79. Guangsha L. shot 60.3 percent from the field. Guangsha L. outrebounded Beijing 37-23 including a 27-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guangsha L. looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American Barry Brown Jr (190-1996, college: Kansas St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 6 assists. The former international center Jinqiu Hu (211-1997) contributed with 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Reggie Perry (208-2000, college: MSU) replied with 21 points for Beijing. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Guangsha Lions have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 16-2 record. Beijing at the other side dropped to the thirteenth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Jilin NE T.. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Important game to mention about took place in Hangzhou. Eighth ranked Leopards (10-7) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 9th ranked Golden Bulls (9-8) 92-90 on Tuesday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Terquavion Smith (193-2002, college: NC State) who helped to win the game recording 43 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and Haoran Wang who added 15 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. American Gabe York (190-1993, college: Arizona) responded with 22 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Shenzhen L. moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Shanxi L. Zhejiang GB. at the other side keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. Shenzhen L. will play against Shanxi L. (#7) in Taiyuan in the next round. Zhejiang GB. will play on the road against Beijing D. and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Rockets (8-9) and Pioneers (6-11), which took place in Tianjin. 12th ranked Rockets lost to fifteenth ranked Pioneers in a road game 93-103 on Tuesday. The winners were led by Javion Hamlet who scored that evening 34 points (!!!) and 5 assists. Even 43 points (!!!) and 4 assists by Zavier Simpson did not help to save the game for Ningbo R.. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneers have a solid four-game winning streak. Tianjin P. maintains fifteenth position with 6-11 record, which they share with Xinjiang and Fujian S. Ningbo R. lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with nine games lost. They share the position with Liaoning. Tianjin P. will meet Jiangsu D. (#19) in the next round. Ningbo R. will play against Qingdao E. (#4) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 20: Nanjing was beaten by Fujian S. on the road 105-91. Jiangsu D. was destroyed by Xinjiang on its own court 65-89. Beijing D. was outscored by Shanghai in a road game 86-67. Shanxi L. managed to beat Liaoning at home 90-86. Guangdong ST crushed Jilin NE T. on the opponent's court 119-98.
The most impressive performance of 20th round was 42 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals by Trevelin Queen of Guangdong ST.



Fujian S. - Nanjing MK 105-91

Everything could happen in Jinjiang at the game between two tied teams. Both seventeenth ranked Sturgeons and 18th ranked Monkey Kings had identical 5-11 record. This time Sturgeons used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Jiangsu 105-91 on Tuesday night. Fujian S. made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Xinjiang dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Jiangsu Dragons's 28. Xinjiang outrebounded Jiangsu D. 36-21 including a 31-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Xinjiang especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. The winners were led by American swingman Kevon Harris (198-1997, college: SF Austin) who scored that evening 28 points and 6 rebounds and the former international Abudurexiti Abudushalamu (203-1996) supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Flying Tigers' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
