WCBA Round 2 (Regular Season): Xinjiang lose to Sichuan

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in WCBA. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Magic Deer in Urumqi on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by Yuanda 94-57. Sichuan outrebounded Xinjiang 50-29 including a 40-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sichuan looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sichuan made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Natasha Howard (188-1991, college: FSU, agency: LBM Management) who scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. American-Hungarian forward Beatrice Mompremier (193-1996, college: Miami, FL) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Yuanda is looking forward to face Shanghai on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Magic Deer will play against Shanxi in Taiyuan and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
Important game to mention about took place in Xiamen. Liaoning Hengye saved a 2-point victory on the road edging Xiamen 78-76 on Friday evening. American forward Myisha Hines-Allen (185-1996, college: Louisville) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Te'a Cooper contributed with 20 points for the winners. American center Shelby Cheslek (196-1992, college: Gonzaga, agency: LBM Management) replied with 21 points and 7 rebounds for Xiamen. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
An exciting game was played in Shanghai. Vermilion Birds faced Swordfish. Guests from Dongguan defeated host Swordfish 101-95. Shuyu Yang scored 38 points (!!!) and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Chennedy Carter responded with a double-double by scoring 47 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 11 assists. Swordfish's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Vermilion Birds will meet at home Zhejiang in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Swordfish will play against Sichuan and hope to win that game.

Rest of the games of round 2 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Hebei was crushed by Jiangsu in Nanjing 93-69. Wuhan beat Beijing at home 88-75. Shaanxi lost to Zhejiang on the opponent's court 63-76. Shanxi unfortunately lost to Shandong in a home game 72-73.

Shanghai - Guangdong 95-101

An exciting game was played in Shanghai. Vermilion Birds faced Swordfish. Guests from Dongguan defeated host Swordfish 101-95. Guangdong made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Shuyu Yang scored 38 points (!!!) and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Aliyah Collier (183-1997, college: Clemson) chipped in 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. American point guard Chennedy Carter (175-1998, college: Texas A&M) responded with a double-double by scoring 47 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 11 assists and center Yutong Liu (201-2001) scored 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Swordfish's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Vermilion Birds will meet at home Zhejiang in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Swordfish will play against Sichuan and hope to win that game.

Jiangsu - Hebei 93-69

There was no surprise in Nanjing where Power was crushed by Jiangsu 93-69 on Thursday. Jiangsu outrebounded Hebei 35-23 including a 24-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Jiangsu looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Xu Chenyan scored 23 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American swingman Jazmine Jones (183-1996, college: Louisville) chipped in 20 points during the contest. Four Jiangsu players scored in double figures. Kayla Davis responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Aliyah Collier (183-1997, college: Clemson) scored 17 points and 4 steals. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jiangsu will meet at home Shandong in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Power will play against Wuhan and hope to win that game.

No shocking result in a game in Wuhan where hengfan defeated Beijing Great Wall 88-75 on Friday. Wuhan forced 19 Beijing turnovers. Wang Jiaqi scored 29 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and American power forward Peyton Williams (193-1998, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. American point guard Tiffany Mitchell (175-1994, college: S.Carolina) responded with 21 points and 6 assists and her fellow American import center Kai James (196-1995, college: FSU) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Four Beijing players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. hengfan will meet at home Hebei in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Beijing Great Wall will play against Shaanxi and hope to win that game.

Zhejiang - Shaanxi 76-63

There was a minor upset in Yiwu where Red Wolves were defeated by Golden Bulls 76-63 on Friday. Zhejiang dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Red Wolves's 22 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Zhejiang looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Shaanxi's players. Xu Anqi scored 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Qi Zhou chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. American guard Sierra Calhoun (183-1996, college: Rutgers) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and her fellow American import power forward Peyton Williams (193-1998, college: Kansas St.) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Golden Bulls will meet Guangdong in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Red Wolves will play against Beijing and hope to win that game.

Shanxi - Shandong 72-73

Rather predictable result in Taiyuan where Sports Lottery edged Flame 73-72 on Friday. The game was dominated by American players. point guard Lindsay Allen (173-1995, college: Notre Dame) scored 19 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Maya Caldwell (180-1998, college: Georgia) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Sports Lottery players scored in double figures. Center Queen Egbo (193-2000, college: Baylor) responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds and center Mercedes Russell (198-1995, college: Tennessee) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sports Lottery will meet Jiangsu in the next round. Flame will play against Xinjiang and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
