WCBA Round 1 (Regular Season): Undefeated Jiangsu loses their first game against Vermilion Birds

The Regular Season in WCBA just started. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Jiangsu in Nanjing on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Vermilion Birds 88-73. Guangdong outrebounded Jiangsu 49-23 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guangdong looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners and chipped in 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Vermilion Birds' coach Zheng Wei used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Luo Xinyu responded with 21 points and 4 assists. Vermilion Birds is looking forward to face Shanghai on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Jiangsu will play against Hebei and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very significant was Sichuan's 47-point road victory against Shaanxi 112-65. American-Bulgarian center Khaalia Hillsman (196-1996, college: Texas A&M) nailed 27 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!) for the winning side and Zhou Xiyu accounted for 13 points and 9 rebounds. came up with 17 points and 5 assists for Red Wolves in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sichuan will play against Xinjiang in Urumqi in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Shaanxi will play on the road against Zhejiang in Yiwu to get more than just one victory in their record.
Quite upsetting was Shandong's home defeat in a game versus Hebei 88-78. Ede Jingling fired 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Lindsay Allen produced 16 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hebei will meet Jiangsu in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Shandong will play against Shanxi in Taiyuan and hope to win that game.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1: winless Zhejiang lost to undefeated Shanghai on the opponent's court 71-101. Xinjiang managed to outperform Beijing in a home game 73-66. Wuhan managed to beat Shanxi on the road 79-77. Winless Xiamen lost to undefeated Liaoning on its own court 76-85. Hefei smashed Fujian Z. in a road game 106-51. Winless Ganzhou lost to undefeated Henan at home 64-111.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 26 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks by Imani McGee-Stafford of Henan.

Shaanxi - Sichuan 65-112

Very significant was Sichuan's 47-point road victory against Shaanxi 112-65. Yuanda dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Red Wolves' 22 and made 29-of-32 charity shots (90.6 percent) during the game, while Red Wolves only scored seven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Red Wolves 46-19 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Yuanda players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. American-Bulgarian center Khaalia Hillsman (196-1996, college: Texas A&M) nailed 27 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!) for the winning side and Zhou Xiyu accounted for 13 points and 9 rebounds. Swordfish used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from Yiwu 101-71 on Monday night. Shanghai dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Golden Bulls's 38. Shanghai forced 19 Zhejiang turnovers and outrebounded them 53-27 including a 22-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Shanghai looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Ruthy Hebard (192-1998, college: Oregon) fired a double-double by scoring 25 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Her fellow American import point guard Chennedy Carter (175-1998, college: Texas A&M) chipped in 22 points and 4 assists. Four Swordfish players scored in double figures. American-Bulgarian center Khaalia Hillsman (196-1996, college: Texas A&M) produced 22 points and 7 rebounds and added 22 points respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Swordfish will meet at home Guangdong in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Golden Bulls will play against Shaanxi and hope to win that game.

Magic Deer used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Beijing 73-66 on Tuesday night. Xinjiang looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American-Hungarian forward Beatrice Mompremier (193-1996, college: Miami, FL) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Wu Tongtong chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 14 assists and 4 steals. But Flame was not able to use a home court advantage and was edged by the opponent from Wuhan 79-77 on Tuesday night. Her fellow American import power forward Peyton Williams (193-1998, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 19 points. Four hengfan players scored in double figures. produced 29 points and 9 rebounds and American center Mercedes Russell (198-1995, college: Tennessee) added 7 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Flame's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. hengfan will meet at home Beijing in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Flame will play against Shandong and hope to win that game.

Liaoning outrebounded Xiamen 43-30 including 28 on the defensive glass. American forward Myisha Hines-Allen (185-1996, college: Louisville) fired a double-double by scoring 15 points, 22 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Shuang Wu chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Montenegrin center Ana Pocek (190-1993) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and her fellow American import power forward Peyton Williams (193-1998, college: Kansas St.) added 19 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Liaoning Hengye will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Xiamen will play against Liaoning and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
