Gerry Blakes claims Chinese NBL weekly honour

Experienced American Gerry Blakes (193-SG-1993) put on an amazing game in the last round for Hefei Kuangfeng and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents NBL Player of the Week award for round 12.
The 32-year old shooting guard had the game-high 40 points adding seven rebounds and nine assists for Hefei in his team's victory, helping them to beat Guangxi (#7, 5-9) 100-95. Thanks to this victory Hefei moved-up to the 3rd position in Chinese NBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Hefei will need more victories to improve their 8-6 record. In the team's last game Blakes had a remarkable 64.7% from 2-point range. He turned to be Hefei's top player in his first season with the team. Arizona State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Blakes is in league's top in points (6th best: 22.6ppg), assists (6th best: 5.0apg) and averages solid 58.8% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American Dakari Johnson (213-C/F-1995) of second-ranked Hunan Changsha. Johnson impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 35 points and 14 rebounds. Of course he led Hunan to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Hefei (#3, 8-6) 92-71. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Hunan consolidated its place in top 2 of the standings. His team's 9-5 record is not bad at all. Johnson is a newcomer at Hunan and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 25.8ppg (#3). He also registered 13.5 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was American Javion Hamlet (193-G-1998) of Guangxi Rhino (#7). Hamlet got into 30-points club by scoring 31 points in the last round. He went also for nine assists. Despite Hamlet's great performance the Guangxi lost 95-100 to the higher-ranked Hefei (#3, 8-6). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Guangxi not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 9 games, recording just five victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Hamlet could try to bring Guangxi's a little bit higher in the standings. Hamlet has individually a great season in China. After 10 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.3ppg (8th best) and assists with 7.1apg (best passer).
