NBL Round 3 (Regular Season): HK JinNiu keep a leadership position

HK JinNiu defeated Jiangsu YS at home 101-83. HK JinNiu outrebounded Jiangsu YS 36-22 including 25 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Michael Ertel II (186-1999, college: UAB) who scored 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. His fellow American import forward Scottie James Jr. (202-1996, college: Liberty, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 25 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Czech center Ondrej Balvin (217-1992, agency: Octagon Europe) who recorded 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jiangsu YS will play next round against Guangxi trying to get back on the winning streak. HK JinNiu will try to continue on its current victory against Hubei on the road.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of HK JinNiu (3-1) on the court of Hebei. Visitors were defeated by Hebei 116-111. It was a good game for American forward Eric Paschall (198-1996, college: Villanova) who led his team to a victory with 36 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). EJ Anosike contributed with 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American forward Scottie James Jr. (202-1996, college: Liberty, agency: Pensack Sports) answered with 28 points and 7 rebounds for HK JinNiu. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Hebei will play against Hunan (#4) in Changsha in the next round. HK JinNiu will play against Hubei and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game where Hunan (3-1) edged by two points Hefei (2-2) 88-86 on Tuesday night. It was a great evening for Dakari Johnson who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Gerry Blakes with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Hunan will meet at home Hebei in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hefei will play against Jiangxi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 3 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Hubei was crushed by Jiangsu YS in Yannan 105-80. Winless Hubei was beaten by Jiangxi at home 93-100. Winless Guangxi lost to Hebei on the opponent's court 108-116.



Jiangsu YS - Hubei 105-80

There was no surprise in Yannan where Hubei (0-4) was crushed by Jiangsu YS (2-2) 105-80 on Saturday. Jiangsu YS outrebounded Hubei 52-32 including a 39-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Jiangsu YS looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Hubei's players. It was a great evening for Czech center Ondrej Balvin (217-1992, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 18 rebounds and 7 assists. Slovakian power forward Vladimir Brodziansky (210-1994, college: TCU, agency: Octagon Europe) helped adding 17 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American point guard Damian Chong-Qui (173-1998, college: PFW) with 17 points and Serbian center Dejan Bjelic (209-1990, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Five Jiangsu YS and four Hubei players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Jiangsu YS will meet Guangxi (#7) on the road in the next round. Hubei will play against HK JinNiu and hopes to get finally their first victory.

His fellow American import center Robert Upshaw (213-1994, college: Washington) helped adding 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was Haitian forward Jeantal Cylla (201-1996, college: Arkansas) with 22 points and forward Shiwei Xue (203-1997) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Grant Sherfield (188-1999, college: Oklahoma, agency: Octagon Europe) helped adding 26 points and 9 assists. The best for the losing side was American Gerry Blakes (193-1993, college: Arizona St.) with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists and Serbian center Radoslav Pekovic (216-1994, agency: Olsta) scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
