WCBA Round 35 (Regular Season): #1 Wuhan is defeated by Henan

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked hengfan (26-5) in Jiyuan on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Henan Phoenix (22-9) 81-68. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of hengfan. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. It was a great evening for American center Kelsey Bone (193-1991, college: Texas A&M) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. Her fellow American import forward Emma Cannon (188-1989, college: FSC) helped adding 16 points and 7 rebounds. American power forward Peyton Williams (193-1998, college: Kansas St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Henan maintains second place with 22-9 record behind leader Wuhan, which they share with 3 other teams. Wuhan at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost. Henan is looking forward to face league's leader Wuhan at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Guangdong maintains second place with 22-9 record behind leader Wuhan, which they share with 3 other teams. Shanghai at the other side keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost. Guangdong will play against Inner M. (#3) in Hohhot in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Shanghai will play at home against Hebei and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Yuanda have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 30-1 record. Loser Golden Bulls keeps the third position with 16 games lost. They share it with Hefei. Sichuan will meet at home league's second-placed Shandong in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Zhejiang will play against Xinjiang and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 35: Beijing won against Hebei on the opponent's court 95-79. Jiangsu managed to outperform Xinjiang in a home game 85-70. Fujian recorded a loss to Shandong on the road 94-76. Hefei was crushed by Liaoning on its own court 69-95. Ganzhou was smashed by Shaanxi in Weinan 83-64. Winless Tianjin lost to Xiamen at home 77-88.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 23 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists by Wong Yew-Yan of Xiamen.

The best player for the winners was American-Bulgarian center Khaalia Hillsman (196-1996, college: Texas A&M) who scored 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). American point guard Aari McDonald (168-1998, college: Arizona) chipped in 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Li Bingzhen (172-2000) produced 27 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international power forward Sun MengXin (190-1993) added 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Shandong outrebounded Fujian 33-22 including 20 on the defensive glass. Shandong looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was Australian forward Alanna Smith (193-1996, college: Stanford) who had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. The former international power forward Yang Hengyu (194-1995) chipped in 21 points and 4 assists. Four Sports Lottery players scored in double figures. Shaanxi outrebounded Ganzhou 52-30 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Shaanxi looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Linnae Harper (175-1995, college: Ohio St.) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Her fellow American import center Queen Egbo (193-2000, college: Baylor) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 19 rebounds. Four Red Wolves players scored in double figures. American power forward Sidney Cooks (193-1998, college: Seton Hall) produced 22 points and 8 rebounds and guard Tian Yangyang (170-1995) added 11 points and 5 assists respectively for the guests. The best player for the winners was guard Wong Yew-Yan (172-1997) who scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. American center Imani McGee-Stafford (201-1994, college: Texas) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds. Four Xiamen players scored in double figures. Forward Ziqi Han (180-1999) produced 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Zhao Fangxin (168-1999) added 18 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) respectively for the hosts. They still close the standings with 31 games lost. Xiamen will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
