WCBA Round 4 (Regular Season): Guangdong defeat Inner M.

This is still too early stage of the Regular Season in WCBA and we should expect many changes in upcoming rounds. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Mongolia (3-1) in Dongguan on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Vermilion Birds (2-2) 98-93. Guangdong looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Aliyah Collier (183-1997, college: Clemson) who helped to win the game recording 30 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. International forward Yang Shuyu (182-2002) contributed with 17 points and 5 assists for the winners. American point guard Natisha Hiedeman (173-1997, college: Marquette) replied with 26 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for Inner M.Guangdong moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Inner M. at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with 5 other teams. Guangdong is looking forward to face Shanxi (#3) in Taiyuan in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Inner M. will play on the road against Hebei in Hengshui and is hoping to win this game.
An interesting game for Liaoning Hengye (4-0) which played road game in Ganzhou against their biggest opponent Ganzhou (2-2). Top-ranked Liaoning Hengye had an easy win 88-57. Worth to mention a great performance of Montenegrin center Ana Pocek (190-1993) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and Tyasha Harris who added 20 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American power forward Sidney Cooks (193-1998, college: Seton Hall) responded with 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Liaoning Hengye have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Newly promoted Ganzhou dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Liaoning will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ganzhou will play at home against the league's leader Liaoning and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Golden Bulls (3-1) which played road game in Urumqi against 4th ranked Magic Deer (1-2). Third ranked Golden Bulls managed to get a 6-point victory 83-77. The winners were led by NaLyssa Smith who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Even 22 points and 8 rebounds by Li Yifan did not help to save the game for Xinjiang. Zhejiang keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Magic Deer keeps the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Shandong. Zhejiang will meet Jiangsu (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Xinjiang will have a break next round.

Other games in round 4 were not that significant. Henan beat Shaanxi on the road 82-66. Wuhan destroyed Tianjin on its own court 106-52. Heilongjiang outscored Xiamen in Daqing 97-63. Winless Hebei was rolled over Shanghai at home 65-108. Winless Fujian was defeated by Jiangsu on the opponent's court 75-71. Shandong lost to defending champion Sichuan in a home game 76-91.
The most impressive performance of 4th round was 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists by Siyu Wang of Sichuan.

Ganzhou - Liaoning 57-88

An interesting game for Liaoning Hengye (4-0) which played road game in Ganzhou against their biggest opponent Ganzhou (2-2). Top-ranked Liaoning Hengye had an easy win 88-57. Liaoning dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Ganzhou's 28. Liaoning forced 23 Ganzhou turnovers and outrebounded them 39-25 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Shaanxi - Henan 66-82

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Henan Phoenix (1-1) beat 7th ranked Red Wolves (2-2) in Weinan 82-66 on Thursday. Despite that victory Henan went down to sixth position due to points difference, which they share with Hefei. Loser Red Wolves dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Henan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Shaanxi will play against Henan and hope to secure a win.

Wuhan - Tianjin 106-52

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Ronggang (0-4) was smashed by fourth ranked hengfan (3-1) in Wuhan 106-52 on Thursday. Wuhan held Tianjin to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 51.2 percent accuracy of the winners. Wuhan forced 22 Tianjin turnovers and outrebounded them 49-25 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Wuhan looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Tianjin's players. The winners were led by swingman Pan Hong (176-2003) who scored that evening 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and center Fu Jinqiu (188-1996) supported her with 15 points. Very predictable result when third ranked Dragons (3-1) rolled over on the road bottom-ranked Xiamen (0-4) 97-63 on Thursday. Heilongjiang made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Xiamen turnovers. The winners were led by American power forward Kennedy Brown (190-2000, college: Duke) who scored that evening 12 points and 7 rebounds and center Shuqing Liu (187-1999) supported her with 2 points. Even a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds by American center Imani McGee-Stafford (201-1994, college: Texas) did not help to save the game for Xiamen. Shanghai looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Hebei's players. The winners were led by Brazilian center Kamilla Cardoso (201-2001, college: S.Carolina) who scored that evening 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all eleven shots !!!) and forward Xu Nuo (180-2002) supported her with 15 points. Everything went according to plan when second ranked Jiangsu (2-2) defeated bottom-ranked Fujian Nanan (0-3) in Nanjing 75-71 on Friday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Jiangsu forced 21 Fujian turnovers. The winners were led by international forward Luo Xinyu (187-2001) who scored that evening 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Canadian guard Kayla Davis (170-1995, college: Towson) supported her with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Even 19 points by guard Ze Wang (179-2002) did not help to save the game for Fujian. Guard Min Fang (170-1998) added 17 points for lost side. Despite that victory Jiangsu went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Fujian Nanan still closes the standings with three games lost. The winners were led by the former international center Xu Han (208-1999) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Siyu Wang (175-1995) supported her with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Yuanda's coach Milos Paden used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 21 points by forward Wei Cao (182-1995) did not help to save the game for Shandong. Australian forward Alanna Smith (193-1996, college: Stanford) added 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Yuanda have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 3-0 record. Loser Sports Lottery keeps the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Xinjiang. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
