On July 30, the Ningbo Basketball Team officially announced that New Zealand basketball legend Pero Cameron had been appointed as the team's head coach.
In order to further optimize the coaching staff lineup and enhance the team's overall strength, Ningbo Fubon Basketball Club has decided, after friendly consultation with Pero Cameron, to formally hire Pero Cameron, head coach of the New Zealand men's national basketball team, as the head coach of Ningbo Fubon Chinwu Basketball Team, and to hire Jovan Gorec, assistant coach of the New Zealand men's national basketball team, as the assistant coach of Ningbo Fubon Chinwu Basketball Team. Pero Cameron, born in Tokoroa, New Zealand on June 5, 1974, is a former New Zealand basketball player who played as a power forward. Cameron has a 20-year career, playing in both the New Zealand and European leagues, and is also one of the greatest players in New Zealand basketball history, having played for the national team for 13 years. In the 2002 World Championship, Cameron, as the starting power forward, helped New Zealand achieve a historic 4th place finish and was selected for the tournament's All-Star team alongside Yao Ming. After retiring, Cameron was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame as a player! After retiring in 2010, Cameron embarked on a coaching career and has extensive professional club coaching experience in the New Zealand National League (NZNBL) and the Australian National League (NBL). In 2011, Cameron returned to the New Zealand men's national basketball team as an assistant coach, and the team advanced to the round of 16 at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. He also participated in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup and the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. In 2019, Cameron took over as head coach of the New Zealand men's national basketball team and has been in charge of the team ever since. As the soul of the New Zealand men's national basketball team, Cameron has a strong personality and is good at building a cohesive team. His successful playing experience also allows him to effectively help improve players' individual technical and tactical abilities. In 2022, Cameron led the New Zealand men's national basketball team to six straight wins in the World Cup qualifiers, securing their place in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. At the same time, he led the New Zealand men's national basketball team to a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Cup, setting a new record for the team's best performance since participating in the Asian Cup. Jovan Gorec, born in Serbia in 1982, has served as a coach for teams in various leagues in multiple countries, and has also served as an assistant coach for the Guangxi Weizhong Basketball Club in the NBL league and the Fujian Xingxing Basketball Club in the CBA league. In 2014, Jovan Gorec joined the New Zealand men's national basketball team as an assistant coach, working alongside Cameron, who was then an assistant coach for the team, and helped the team compete in the 2014 FIBA World Cup. In 2024, Gorec returned to the New Zealand men's national basketball team and joined Cameron's coaching staff as an assistant coach. Welcome to the team, Pero Cameron and Jovan Gorec! We look forward to seeing the combined coaching team of local and foreign coaches lead Ningbo Fubon Chinova Basketball Team with a fresh look and new attitude into the preparation work, and strive for outstanding performance in the 2024-2025 season. |
