Blue Whales ink Christopher Obekpa

Christopher Obekpa

The Sichuan Blue Whales (CBA) have signed Christopher Obekpa, a 30-year-old Nigerian international power forward. Obekpa, who stands at 206cm and weighs 107kg, was previously playing for Dynamo in the Burundian D1 league. Last season, he played for various teams and ended up at Al Arabi in the Qatari league.
He attempted to reach the NBA and participated in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He's been a member of the Nigerian international program for several years. He's regularly been called up to the Nigerian senior team since 2018 and was previously called up for the Under 16 National Team in 2008.
He is a highly experienced player, having played in nine different countries across four continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America. Some of the countries he has played professionally in include Italy (Avellino), Lebanon (Al Riyadi), Qatar, Syria (Al Karameh), Turkey (Trabzonspor), NBA G League (Santa Cruz Warriors), Libya (Ahly Benghazi), Guinea (Seydou Legacy Athletique Club Conakry), and Ivory Coast (Abidjan Basket Club). In 2023, his team reached the semifinals of the Road to Basketball Africa League East Division Elite 16.
He was voted to the Turkish League All-Star Game in 2018.
He graduated from the University of Nevada - Las Vegas in 2016, and this is his eighth season as a professional player. He also played for other colleges such as St. John's University and Monroe College.
