Loongs sign Sonny Weems

Sonny Weems

Shanxi Loongs (CBA) signed experienced 36-year old American swingman Sonny Weems (198cm-93kg-1986, college: Arkansas) for upcoming 2022-23 season. Weems played this summer at Team Arkansas (The Basketball Tournament) in the U.S. The last season he played at Guandong Tigers in Chinese CBA where in 27 games he had 15.0ppg, 4.7rpg, 5.6apg and 1.2spg. He helped them to make it to the semifinals.
In 2008 he was drafted by Chicago Bulls (NBA) in second round (39th overall). The former University of Arkansas standout is in his 15th (!!!) season in pro basketball.
Weems is quite experienced player. He has played in six different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). Weems has played previously professionally in Israel (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Lithuania (Zalgiris), Russia (CSKA Moscow), Turkey (Efes), NBA (Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors) and China (Golden Bulls). He won Chinese CBA championship title in 2019, 2020 and 2021 and made it to the cup final in 2017 and 2019. Weems was voted to Eurobasket.com Euroleague All-Imports Team back in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
He is close to retirement age as a player. It's very possible he may end his playing career at Loongs.
